robertoart Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 Anyone familiar with this film about the Boston jazz club 1369. A link to this clip was posted on the Hoffman Forums. It seems the film is unavailable. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 They had jazz clubs in 1369? Quote
robertoart Posted April 13, 2012 Author Report Posted April 13, 2012 They had jazz clubs in 1369? Actually it's just coming to light now. They were mostly whites only, Allen Lowe is investigating Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) Given that the Black Death was in full flow I wouldn't have thought gatherings of excited Bebop fans would have been approved by the authorities. This was most likely the venue: Burning witches was more the thing to do on a Saturday night round there. Edited April 13, 2012 by A Lark Ascending Quote
sidewinder Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 They had jazz clubs in 1369? More likely Madrigal Parlours.. Quote

Michael Weiss Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I played there with Johnny Griffin in 1985. I remember a nice vibe in the club. People were there to listen. Quote
Stereojack Posted April 13, 2012 Report Posted April 13, 2012 I played there with Johnny Griffin in 1985. I remember a nice vibe in the club. People were there to listen. I attended that gig! The film was shown around town at the time. I remember seeing it at a showing at one of the local theaters, perhaps the Brattle (?) Quote

stevebop Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Hello all. back in the day, later 1970's-mid-80's, the 1369 Jazz Club in Inman Square, Cambridge, MA, was the joint, where it went down- local musicians coming up, New York cats doing it, everyone throwing down for the music. Incredible place and time for the music; I was fortunate to be part of that scene! This is a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to bring an incredible documentary to light, footage from the day at the 1369. This is important work: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1533059189/a-place-for-jazz spread the word... thanks! Quote
tranemonk Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Thanks Steve. The minute you posted it to Facebook I went over to the site and contributed to the project. I can't remember if I went there but it was an important part of Boston jazz history. When did it go out of the of jazz biz? I really hope people contribute as it seems to be off to a slow start. Guest Posted July 2, 2015 Report Posted July 2, 2015 In the months before it closed, it had a great Blues jam on Sundays Quote
makpjazz57 Posted April 29, 2019 Report Posted April 29, 2019 Sorry I missed out on the 1369 Club. Going through my Mom's photos and found this one. Do not know the name of the bartender. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 The movie in question can be viewed here: which I learned about from this post by my Facebook friend Jason Rubin, who also mentions a CD recorded during the last few blues weekends. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 Someone sent me a live recording of Jaki Byard from that club. Quote
