Big Wheel Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Your top ten has The Holy Roller at #10, Tuck Rule at #2. The Motor City Miracle was also a farce. What was the Motor City Miracle? The Music City Miracle looked like a forward lateral from most camera angles, but most analysis has shown that the ball went either directly sideways or slightly backwards before Dyson gathered it. One of the most amazing sports finishes I've ever seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPhONc6xC48 Quote

GA Russell Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Is there a YouTube video of the end of the game that everyone is talking about? I would like to see it. Jazzmoose Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 The NFL is committing suicide before our eyes. They'd better get their shit together before people realize how unimportant professional sports really are. Quote

They'd better get their shit together before people realize how unimportant professional sports really are. the public is very fickle--the nfl is already playing with very hot fire on the longterm health issue. they are already extracting the cash maximum for 12 minutes of action per game. something faster, cheaper, and more exciting is sure to come onto the scene. vajerzy Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Would love to see the replacement refs go on strike. I equate the replacement refs to myself being asked to umpire Major League Baseball. I think I'm a pretty good HS and rec ball umpire but I'll be the first to say no way to doing an MLB game. They're probably pretty good in their specific Divisions and conferences but are in way over their head. Quote

Jazzmoose Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Anyone putting actual money on NFL games this year has got to have a chip missing...Interesting point, though. Is there any sport more a part of the gambler's world than the NFL? Those at the top might want to consider this before continuing to feed their 'lofty' union busting principles. Offers could be pouring in... Quote

Offers could be pouring in... Basketball is pretty enmeshed with gambling, with college players, and a NBA ref going to jail over the years. The point spread is too easy to influence in basketball, heck I've been to games and the loudest cheer has been at the end of a game, when the home teams covers with some last second baskets. But your point is right on, it's too easy to get at these replacement refs, and the NFL should be concerned. Quote

And another reason why to be concerned is that most of the money lost was going to the Packers to cover, not Seattle. That means with the call, casinos, on-line betting, etc., weren't paying out, but instead, keeping the money. So that 150-250 million switch in action, was action that mostly stayed home with the house. Like the house needs the breaks.... Edited September 26, 2012 by Matthew Quote
Tim McG Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 That last touchdown was a completely bogus call, the worst call I've ever seen, just terrible. I agree - worst call EVER!! It's not even close to as bad as The Tuck Rule. That one was legit Quote
Blue Train Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) The funny thing about this whole replacement ref thing is people act like the regular refs didn't constantly blow calls. They're nowhere as bad as NBA refs...but still. The NFL is using league supervisors for each of these games. Something they only normally do in the postseason. Neither the league supervisors or replay official are replacements. You know who was the league supervisor for this game? Someone who was involved in two infamous blown calls by a ref....and both of them in the same year. There is no video of the game between the Jets and Seahawks in 1998, which in that game the Seahawks were screwed. As in, I give you Phil Luckett in action. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/09000d5d80cc8200/Bettis-calls-tails Edited September 26, 2012 by Blue Train Quote

Blue Train Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) The Tuck Rule call might be the worst in the replay era with regular refs....but here you have a Playoff game before replays....which is supposed to have the best refs involved. Check 3:50 into this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWPQoFwVkrk Does anyone remember a year that there wasn't a major blown call or people not complaining about the regular refs? alocispepraluger102 Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) hopefully, soon, we will have a super ref empowered to instantaneously make rulings/overrulings on all plays. the pace of the game is too slow for the 21st century. Check 3:50 into this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWPQoFwVkrk Does anyone remember a year that there wasn't a major blown call or people not complaining about the regular refs? True, but the SCAB refs are blowing a lot more calls and in a more spectacular fashion. The SCAB refs are also unable to get a handle on the game, and some games have veered too close to anarchy. The SCAB refs have also turned a blind eye to a large number of infractions, such as the greatly increased holding and pass interference(my opinion). The real refs are certainly quite fallible, but they're a damn sight better than a bunch of SCABS. Quote
Blue Train Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 (edited) Didn't you leave out at least 10 more Scabs in that? Are they making mistakes? Of course. At this point thee rulebook is so convoluted at that regular refs don't seem to understand it on a weekly basis. Are things getting out of control with the players and coaches....yes, but that has more to do with NFL than the refs. The regular refs can pretty much call a holding call on every play if they followed the rulebook exactly. It's hilarious when people go "Scabs" for people that probably work maybe 10-15 hours a week....and I am being generous with adding in the travel....and average close to $150,000....all the while working at their real jobs during the week. Something that none of the other major leagues officials can do during a season. Even taking into account it was the owners idiotically locking them out for basically $25-40 (depending on whose story you believe) million over 7-years. Think about that and what the NFL is worth. That's less than Chris Johnson and many others idiotic contracts. These are not people who don't have other income, or are really unemployed. We're talking about people who this is a 2nd job (with all those out there that don't even have a first job.) for...and they're averaging $150,000 a year. No walk in the shoes of the "Scabs" (some of these people worked in a "lingerie league" (that alone tells you how absurd this whole thing happens to be.) and in in this economy. It's a Clusterfuck on the NFL's part....but I really don't feel sorry for the regular refs. Not with all those who are really unemployed, or really on strike. They're not coal miners and all the rest you can use legitimately use "Scabs" for. Many of them are taking advantage of the Bush II tax cuts and are hoping they continue.
