Head Man Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 It must nine months or so by now since Dave Holland cancelled a gig I was going to at Ronnie Scott's Club because of his wife's illness. Since then I've heard nothing. Does anyone know what's happening? His website doesn't seem to have had anything posted to it since 2010 and I've not noticed any news of live gigs recently. I'm hoping for the best but fearing the worst. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) A couple of posters mentioned seeing him with the Overtone Quartet very recently (see the what live music are you seeing thread). He was missing from that band at Cheltenham last May; 'family illness' was given as the reason. Hopefully things worked out. Recent review here. Edited March 11, 2012 by A Lark Ascending Quote

It's good to see he's started playing again. Now, I wonder when he's next coming over here! Quote
JETman Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 I read an interview with Jack DeJohnette (I believe at AllAboutJazz). Jack mentioned that Dave's wife passed away. This should explain the recent inactivity. Quote
Mark Stryker Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 (edited) Here's an obituary for Dave's wife, Clare, who died in September. http://www.tributes.com/show/Clare-Holland-92297656 Very sad -- theirs was truly a great love story. Edited March 11, 2012 by Mark Stryker Quote

Head Man Posted March 11, 2012 Author Report Posted March 11, 2012 Ah, that's sad news about Dave's wife. I guess that answers my question as to why he's not been around much recently. Thanks for all your posts, guys. Quote
