Hardbopjazz Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) It appears to be a one time deal, but I wold love to catch Sonny Rollins with Sting. Umbria Jazz Festival to Feature Corea, Metheny, Rollins, Sting Advance tickets on sale for some shows By Jeff Tamarkin Umbria Jazz 12, which will take place July 6-15 in Perugia, Italy, will feature Chick Corea and Stefan Bollani (as well as a Bollani-Hamilton De Halanda due), Pat Metheny’s Unity Band, Sonny Rollins and Sting as part of his “Back to Bass” tour. Also scheduled are Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, Joe Lovano and Dave Douglas, singer Melody Gardot, and Italian artist Enrico Rava. siteI just don't see the two fitting together. king ubu Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 (edited) I would love to catch Sonny again, but certainly not with a douchebag such as Sting... always thought he was a lousy bassist and wished he'd gotten a better bass player on his early albums (and lost interest alltogether somewhen late in the 90s). Hardbopjazz Posted March 10, 2012 Author Report Posted March 10, 2012 What about Leonard Cohen? I am fine with Cohen and even with the Rolling Stones, but I can't see Sting and him working. Quote
medjuck Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 What about Leonard Cohen? Wow! What's that from? ( The "Sunday Night"tv show Hal Willner did with David Sanburn?) I think Sonny's solos were completely appropriate. Quote
JSngry Posted March 10, 2012 Report Posted March 10, 2012 Yep, the old Night Music show, still not released on DVD! Quote
bneuman Posted March 11, 2012 Report Posted March 11, 2012 Isn't that just saying that Rollins and Sting are both on the festival, not that they're playing together? Stick an Oxford comma in there. If they are playing together, it's missing an 'and'. Rollins/Metheny/Corea/Sting would be one unique all-star group. Who would play drums, though? I nominate Billy Cobham or Phil Collins. Need someone who can lock in with Sting's groove. Quote
