I recently purchased The First Day and noticed that an untitled Lewis track was omitted from the reissue due to space considerations. The notes say that the missing track would be included on an a forthcoming Lewis reissue. Did this reissue ever see the light of day? If so, what is the title? Thanks.

You mean the Chronogical Classics, right?

It's there indeed (#1 on side 4, "Untitled Lewis Original", clocking in - the label says - at 3:43)

Also included in the 2nd Chronological Classics disc (1939-41).

The omitted track would fit on an 80-minute CD. What was the maximum length of a CD in 1992?

Back then the standard mastering tape was the U-Matic video tape. Average length of them was somewhere in the upper 70s range. Different manufacturers had slightly different lengths. In addition, the process required 2 minutes of tape before the signal could start. For this reason general practice in the industry was a limit of 75 minutes of content.

That explains it, as the album clocks in at just under 75 minutes. Thanks, Chuck.
