John L Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 Happy birthday, Philly Joe, and thanks for the incredible music! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 I run hot 'n cold on Philly Joe; but when it's hot, it's way hot! Quote
Gheorghe Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 To bad I never caught him live. One of my favourites, and maybe the first drummer who really impressed me. See, my first "jazz album" was "SteaminĀ“" by Miles Davis, where I noticed his fantastic solo on "Salt Peanuts". I love everything he did, he was one of the greatests. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 I love how hard he swung, when it was on, theres nothing like it, like on "Workout". Happy birthday Philly Joe. I also love the meeting of Bu, Philly and Roy on "Drums Around the Corner". Quote
