JSngry Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Two questions: Who is/was Jack Kleinsinger, and why does he make me nervous? Why did Roy Haynes leave and Bernard Purdie return?Ok, that's really three questions. Sorry. Lee's a funny guy! I just picked up a collection of 1952 Kenton aircheck with Lee on the band, and Kenton is all leadery all over the place. He's announcing "My Lady" & calls Lee up and asks him about his wife, so Lee gives the basics, Kenton stays silent Lee gives a little more detail and finally breaks and says, "What does this have to do with anything?" Cracked me up. Quote
AllenLowe Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 Kleinsinger used to work for the State of NY, tax unit, IIRC. I had dinner with him maybe 35 years ago. Quote
Quincy Posted March 5, 2012 Report Posted March 5, 2012 What a hoot! And I had no idea Konitz was like that. Thanks! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted March 7, 2012 Report Posted March 7, 2012 Good interview with Lee in the current Saxophone Journal, whether that's worth $12 is up to you. Quote
colinmce Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 He's also looking damn sharp for the 70s! Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 Good interview with Lee in the current Saxophone Journal, whether that's worth $12 is up to you. In said interview they mention some 10 step process of improv Lee came with, anyone know anything about this? Quote
king ubu Posted March 8, 2012 Report Posted March 8, 2012 feghing brilliant, thanks! Good interview with Lee in the current Saxophone Journal, whether that's worth $12 is up to you. In said interview they mention some 10 step process of improv Lee came with, anyone know anything about this? Probably related to Mingus' cat toilet training program (which has but four steps though) Quote
