Harold_Z Posted January 20, 2004 Report Posted January 20, 2004 I'm definitely in favor of this idea. Good music is good music and it should be called attention to. Quote
GregK Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 a discussion of King Crimson records by people here would be very interesting, although I would definitely ignore anything to do with rap or musics of that ilk Quote
JSngry Posted January 21, 2004 Author Report Posted January 21, 2004 We'll have a poll soon. Maybe there are those who oppose the idea but are hesitant about saying so. This will be their chance to be heard and to be counted. Quote
Noj Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 I listen to a large variety of music beyond jazz, so I'm all for it. Come to think of it, the one about THERE'S A RIOT GOING ON may as well have been the inaugural Non-Jazz AOTW thread... Quote
Adam Posted January 23, 2004 Report Posted January 23, 2004 Ja, it seems to me that all you have to do is start a thread about a non-jazz album, and there you go! Quote
BruceH Posted January 27, 2004 Report Posted January 27, 2004 How about Another Green World, by Brian Eno? I still play this once in a while. Quote
Geoff Posted January 28, 2004 Report Posted January 28, 2004 I'm for it too. I listen to 20th Century Classical Music as much as I do jazz. People like Morton Feldman, Gyorgy Ligeti, John Cage etc. Quote
BruceH Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 George Crumb, perhaps? Carl Ruggles? Quote
michel devos Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 (edited) My 2 pence worth of reply : who could be against such an idea..?I expect no one. However, I have serious doubts about the viability of such a project. Each of us has his own taste in music, be it Rock, folk, classical, whatever : personally, I'm mostly interested in classical music from 18th and 19th century and jazz ranging from 1940 on, with a strong emphasis on soul jazz and Hammond organ. As a result, there is simply no time for me to go thru all the postings on the site, not even to mention posting myself and this section will simply be a new one to be scanned occasionally to pick a subject I'm connected with. I feel a forum should be as specialized and thorough as possible within the limits of its declared field of interest(application dedicated? ) otherwise I can't see how anybody could survive the flood of mixed threads that will overflow it. Now, how do we define these limits....? In short, I'm not against the project but I do not believe it to be practical. Nevertheless, this will be an interesting experience. Parkertown Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 Sounds good to me! I've been on a big B.O.C. kick lately. They have been blowing me away. "I'm making a Career of Evil" "the heat from below will BURN YOUR EYES OUT" Nice crunchy guitars...it's a good thing. B) -------------------- B.O.C. = Blue Oyster Cult Quote
