clifford_thornton Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 RIP. I haven't seen as many films of his as I should have, but aim to fix that. NYT link. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Damn! Liked him a bunch and saw him getting out of a cab in Manhattan once. He nodded and smiled my way. Damn! Quote
Neal Pomea Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 I think Manny killed Barney Quill on the Upper Peninsula! (Anatomy of a Murder). What an actor. Thanks, Mr. Ben! RIP Quote
GA Russell Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 RIP. Although I know him only from Run for Your Life, I've always thought of him as one of John Cassavetes' crew. I have had Arrest and Trial on my Amazon wish list for some time now, so maybe I'll pick it up. Quote
ValerieB Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 i loved Ben Gazzara from way back. my big thrill was talking to him in a little Italian restaurant a few years ago on Lexington Ave. he was warm and friendly but didn't look like he was in good health. the restaurant is gone after being there many years and now, very sadly, so is Mr. Gazzzara. he was very special. R.I.P. Quote
thedwork Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 (edited) damn. big, big loss. from cassavettes, to Roadhouse (he was in that, right? ), to Buffalo 66, he was always great to watch. RIP... Edited February 4, 2012 by thedwork Quote
BFrank Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 He had a nice (but small) part in The Big Lebowski, too! My realtor in Santa Barbara knew him - they used to play tennis together. Quote
brownie Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 One of the very best actor of his generation! Loved him in 'Anatomy of a Murder' (a not to be liked character in that one), the Cassavette's films and Bogdanovich's 'Saint Jack' (my favorite film of his). Quote
Jazzmoose Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 Never liked the guy. But considering the roles I remember him in, that's probably a testament to his acting ability. Quote
B. Goren. Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 What a sad news! RIP Mr. Gazzara. Quote
AllenLowe Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 sad news, but to me he was one of the most artificial of the method-ites. A scenery chewer. Quote
paul secor Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Not his last role, but the last film I saw him in, was the "Quartier Latin" segment of Paris, je t'aime with Gena Rowlands. They played a married couple who were divorcing. I remember it as being very moving. Quote
