miles65 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) JSngry post about the Birka jazz archive led me to their shop. On the CD Box set page are a few Mosaics: Bunny Berigan 7 CD's at €116/SEK 1100 Tadd Jones 3 CD's at €84/SEK 800 Freddie Redd 2 CD € 79/SEK 750 I picked up the Stuff Smith Edited February 1, 2012 by Stompy Jones Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Tadd Jones 3 CD's at €84/SEK 800 But nothing on Thad Dameron? Too bad ... Quote
John L Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 Tadd Jones 3 CD's at €84/SEK 800 But nothing on Thad Dameron? Too bad ... I remember that was how Tommy Flanagan pronounced Thad Jones. He use to play a lot of Thad Jones compositions and spoke with a lisp. "This is another Tadd Jones composition." Quote
king ubu Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 I got my Edmond Hall/James P. Johnson/Sidney de Paris/Vic Dickenson CD set from them - excellent service, though shipping was quite steep, I think. Quote
miles65 Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Posted February 1, 2012 Sorry for the typo of Thad Jones' name . shipping may be steep but where else can you get the Stuff Smith Mosaic for €85,-- shipping included? Quote
David Ayers Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 I got my Edmond Hall/James P. Johnson/Sidney de Paris/Vic Dickenson CD set from them - excellent service, though shipping was quite steep, I think. They must have forgotten to devalue their currency against the SFr, unlike the rest of us. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 I picked up the Stuff Smith Grrrrrrr ! Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted February 1, 2012 Report Posted February 1, 2012 As for shipping, while I haven't checked the exact rates at Birka Jazz, their shipping costs probably aren't entirely their fault. I bought from Birka in the first few years after the turn of the millennium (but then gave up as somehow I had exhausted the more essential and nicely priced items they were likely to have for sale ) but did not find their shipping costs inflationary. However, I've bought from other Swedish sellers relatively often (mostly mags) in more recent years and found that the Swedish postal rates for shipping abroad have increased quite heftily through the years. clifford_thornton Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 All my dealings with Birka Jazz over the years have been splendid. There were two "over-graded" LPs once and the proprietor sent me replacement, minty copies with no hassle, not asking for the VG ones back. That was unexpected indeed. Quote
