CJ Shearn Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 From the NEA luncheon, great stuff Quote
JSngry Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Seems like a good time to (again) put in a plug for No Maps On My Taps is the best movie about jazz ever, and that Chuck Green = Lester Young in some kind of cosmic way. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_OtQDMyfAI Quote
CJ Shearn Posted January 15, 2012 Author Report Posted January 15, 2012 Some very very cool stuff. Quote
JSngry Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Tip of the iceberg, trust me... it's a pretty deep movie, at least as far as it deals with the issue of finding your own "voice" (or in the case of these dancers, time steps) within a community and the consequences, pro and con, of remaining true to it. It's more true to jazz as I know it than any "jazz movie" I've ever seen, and yeah, Chuck Green is mesmerizing throughout. Find a copy somewhere and check it out, I think you'll be well pleased. mikeweil Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 Received the DVD today, it is marvellous - these three dancers are some bad mofos. Dancers like these are the reason I always sigh and shrug when local dance fans rave about Astaire and the like - they never saw Chuck Green or Sandman Slim or .... Anybody here know that other Nierenberg movie, About Tap? Quote
Tom Storer Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 I also ordered "No Maps on My Taps." It arrived a few days ago and I just watched it last night. Jim, you're right, it's fantastic. I'm going to see if "About Tap" is available... Quote
king ubu Posted January 27, 2012 Report Posted January 27, 2012 That sounds very interesting! Got to look for the film, too! (oh, and here's an "e" for them ) Quote
