Dave James
'bout time. Hope this works. The current coffee selection at Starbucks is, IMO, undrinkable. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/chi-starbucks-lighter-blonde-roasts-debut-in-us-20120110,0,6880757.story
JSngry
I like the dark roast myself. Too light and you get coffee-flavored water.
jazzbo
Well, hope it works for them, but it's not an option I was waiting for. . . .
golfcrazy1984
I prefer dark too, but I'll probably try it out when I go to Starbucks. Which isn't often, as the one closest to my house closed...

That's a GOOD thing??? Sounds undrinkable to me.
GA Russell
Starbucks is offering free samples of its blends this Thursday through Saturday in the US. The dates will be in February in Canada.

Jim Alfredson
I'm not much of a coffee drinker but when I'm on the road, Starbucks is nothing short of a godsend. Due to my food dye allergies, eating on the road is extremely treacherous. Pretty much everything at Starbucks is ok for me, sans the weird little cake thingies they started selling with colored frosting (wouldn't eat them anyway). Their oatmeal doesn't automatically have sugar in it (you have to add it) unlike McDonald's, it also doesn't have caramel color in it unlike McDonald's, and it doesn't have artificial maple flavoring unlike McDonald's. Their fruit & yogurt parfaits don't have food dye in them either, unlike McDonald's.
Dave James
Stopped by one of my many local Starbucks this afternoon to nosh on a free sample of their new blonde roast. Turns out they have two varieties, Veranda and Willow. I sampled both. Nothing special. IMO, the Veranda was too strong to pass as a light roast and the other was sort of acidic. On the infrequent occasions I do go to Starbucks, I think I'll just stick with my Grande Americano. BTW, thought you might enjoy the company's own description of their two new blends. And I thought wine geeks were bad. Veranda has a touch of cereal, a little bit of grain, a little bit of milk chocolate. Willow has a touch of crisp acidity, light bodied, light intensity, but flavorful and very approachable. Not sure about you, but I can't even stay in the same room with a cup of coffee that's not "approachable." And, just for the record, what is "a touch of cereal" and how does it differ from "a little bit of grain".
GA Russell
Well first of all, let's agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me, Starbucks is like Dave Brubeck. I like everything about Dave Brubeck except his piano playing, and I like everything about Starbucks except their coffee. To me, their coffee has always seemed over-roasted. I read not long ago that it is company policy to over-roast their beans in order to maintain consistency and hide the differences between batches. So I was pleased to read the other day that Starbucks is going to offer a new blend called Blonde, to compete with McDonald's. I like McDonald's' regular coffee very much. So today I went to my nearest Starbucks. The young lady behind the counter (she was working alone) knew nothing about the promotion regarding samples of each blend with each customer taking home something. She gave me a free cup of the Blonde, and I figured that I would go back tomorrow or Saturday for the free party favor if I liked it. Well as I say, YMMV. But IMHO, the Blonde is the worst coffee I've ever had in my life. It is not over-roasted. It just tastes bad. No way I'll go back for more. I recommend that everyone visit Starbucks to see if you agree.
