colinmce Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 DG has a number of CD reissues on the French Futura label for 13.99. Titles include classics like Portal/Surman - Alors!, Steve Lacy - Wordless and Dizzy Reece - From In to Out. Great deals for records that fetch a lot of money on eBay in their LP form. Quote
Head Man Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I don't know how the prices in euros stack up with the prices in dollars but I have bought quite a few Futura & Marge releases direct from Gerard Terrones via his website: Futura & Marge Records Service is fine and he replies promptly to e-mails if necessary' There are some great recordings on these labels. Quote
colinmce Posted January 9, 2012 Author Report Posted January 9, 2012 I should say I don't know if these are brand new, so apologies if this is old news. But usually when reissues crop up like that on DG's front page it means they are new releases. Quote
JETman Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 They are not new releases. Dusty has carried these titles intermittently for at least a few years. Quote
JSngry Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I know that at least the Reece has been offered there before (and a fine album it is!). Usually what it looks like DG does is order in a quantity, sell them out, wait until the "Add To My Want List" quantity reaches whatever their critical mass is, and then order up some more. Lather, rinse, repeat. In other words, carpe diem, becuause not only may the item go out of print at the manufacturer's end, but that critical mass might not be reached on any given title/group of titles. Quote
Niko Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 have also happily ordered directly from the label before; actually, prices have been lowered recently for a lot of stuff including all the futura reissues (11 Euro for a single cd including international shipping...) Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 The Futura and Marge catalogs yield a lot of deep stuff. Well worth dipping into both the old and the new. Quote
romualdo Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 Just placed an order at the french website - Lacy, Reece, Byard, Rivers, Adams & Evan Parker What a great find - direct from the source If you're buying from Australia the "french connection" is preferable to Dusty Groove due to the strong aussie $ (esp re the euro) Quote

king ubu Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Is the Lacy just "wordless" or "voiceless", too? The site list's Aebi but on cello, so there's some hope... Quote
Niko Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 there's a lot of fluctuation in what's available apparently (a year ago i ordered the raymond boni solo album and ted curson's pop wine - both of which are gone by now as is, e.g., that philly joe jones octet album - on the other hand, i am certain i'd have ordered the reece then if it had been available... (got it now and it's great) Quote

romualdo Posted January 18, 2012 Report Posted January 18, 2012 Wow!! that was fast order I placed (7CD) on Jan 11 arrived here in Australia on the 18th Even threw in an extra "freebie" CD (or was it an error?) Appears to be a very "personal" service Quote

clifford_thornton Posted January 26, 2012 Report Posted January 26, 2012 I'd been looking - hoping - to one day get the Vitet on LP and finally caved and bought the CD. It's really great. But my tastes might run more toward communal weirdness than others' around here. The Lacy is excellent - Jerome Cooper really adds something to it, as does the late Ambrose Jackson. Quote
