Guest Chaney Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I can't help wondering. It's 9:29 p.m. here on the east coast of the USA and, getting sleepy, I'll head for the bedroom at my usual 10:00. Unless they've nodded off at their keyboards, I'm seeing some of our European members awake and posting. At what time do you folks (from ANY part of the world) go to bed / sleep? What gives? Quote
Д.Д. Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 (edited) Weekdays 9PM-2AM. Depends, really. Weekends 5-8 AM It's 5:45 AM here now. I don't exactly know who and when decided that humans are animals active at day - as soon as I have an opportunity (i.e. vacation or even weekends) I slide immidiately to night-active lifestyle, sleeping most of the day and being awake most of the night. I feel more natural this way. Edited January 17, 2004 by Д.Д. Quote
Peter Johnson Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I tend to be an early riser, sometimes around 5-6 a.m., so I start to panic if it's getting to be 10-11 p.m. and I haven't hit the sack yet. As ridiculous as it might be, I seem to need eight hours of sleep to function. Wish I could get by on less! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 9:30 to 10 or so, up at 5:45 in the morning. Although I also slip back into "nite owl" mode on vacation. I just can't hack doing it on weekends any more and make it back to work in one piece. The price of age, I'm afraid... Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Depends on how hard I'm working. If my work schedule is light, I stay up till all hours of the night. Lately, I've been hitting the sack at 2 pm. Gotta change that... Quote
king ubu Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Hey, I was maybe still there when you posted Chaney! And already up and going again... but that's not all usual. Actually, I go to bed between 12pm and 2-3 am - weekdays or weekends. Days I got to work, that's pretty hard, as I get up around 6.30 or 7 am, but that's two or three days a week only. Otherwise, being a student I can arrange my day pretty free and do so, too. I rather work until midnight then get up very early... ubu Quote
vibes Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I usually wake up between 4-5am. I generally fall asleep between 9-10pm, but have been known to fall asleep on the couch as early as 7pm. I've never been a night person. Quote
Free For All Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 When left to my own devices I'll stay up 'til 3 or so, as you can see by this post. Usually by then the domestic membership thins out and our friends across the pond start their day. Once school starts and I start adjuncting, I'll hang it up at 12 or 1. My wife hits the sack (and we all know how painful that can be) around 11, so that's when I put on the tunes and get online, or try to write/work on music projects. Quote

I feel more natural this way. Funny, same thing happens to me. And I've got a job in which I can't really afford to do so. On top of that, biorhythmic activity is non-existent within my body. Really, I don't have a biorhythm. And, to answer the question, I go to bed as late as humanly possible. Sometimes not at all. This edges me into heart-attack country faster than other people. Cheers! Free For All Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Since we moved into our new house, we've been sleeping really well. It's a very quiet neighborhood, and (because of the winter sun position) the bedrooms are dark like Vegas hotel rooms- you can sleep 'til noon and it's pitch black in there. I LOVE that. It's getting harder to get a good night's sleep when I travel. I just want want to be in my own bed all the time. Does anyone else need some kind of ambient noise when they sleep? I'm not talking about Vince Guaraldi - I mean something like a fan or a radio, tv (I use an air purifier at home as a noise-producer). I can't sleep in a QUIET room- I need some kind of distracting sound, so I don't have to listen to my ears ring, or my thoughts run amuck. My wife's ideal sleeping scenario- well, let's just say I refer to that as "the crypt"- no sound, no light and HOT. That's why we have two bedrooms. We both believe a good night's sleep on a regular basis makes for a healthy marriage. Quote
Guest Chaney Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 ... Does anyone else need some kind of ambient noise when they sleep?... My only TV is a 12" color set in my bedroom. (You know you're getting old when you have to mention that the 12" set is COLOR as opposed to black and white.) It's set to turn on automatically at 10:00 p.m. and turn off at 11. Seinfeld's on at 10 and my nightly plan is to fall asleep before 10:30. As the show after Seinfeld is Will & Grace -- a show I've grown to despise -- I'm usualy up to the challenge of being asleep before it begins. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Free for All, I know exactly what you mean. I always slept with a fan on, year round. I like a room as cold as possible. There's no sleep like the sleep under a ton of blankets! The wife on the other hand likes dead silence and warmth. So we compromised. She got her way, and I shut up. I'll be damned if we're going the seperate bed routine. Lucy and Ricky we ain't... Quote
JSngry Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I go to sleep when I can, which is usually neither early nor often enough, and wake up when I have to, which is too damn regularly. More and more I find myself thinking that Brian Wilson had the right idea there for a while, even if it was for the wrong reason... Quote
Sundog Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 About 11:00 p.m. during the week. Gotta get up for "the man" by 6:00 a.m. Weekends are all over the place but, typically somewhere from 1-3 a.m. Additionally, 2-3 weekends a year I pull all-nighters just to remind myself how stupid it is. paul secor Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Usually between 9:30 and 10. Up between 6:30 and 7 (Though not always out of bed right away). I used to be more a night owl - 12-12:30, but my wife has managed to change at least that habit. I should add - except during the NBA playoffs. Then I revert. Quote

During the summer, I put on the ceiling fan, and I play a jazz cd during the Winter. Another thing that helps me sleep is my furry sleeping pill. I take my cat to bed. He settles at my feet and his cleaning motions (as he washes himself) puts me under. Quote

Thank you for clarifying that. I was wondering a bit. I can't go to sleep listening to music- it keeps my mind too active. I need the drone-like sound. And I don't mean Kenny G. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I've discovered yet another eery similarity between Peter Johnson and I---I would have written the post he wrote for this topic! Quote

street singer Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 I've always been a night person. On weekends, I find myself staying up to 3 or 4 in the morning w/o realizing it. Just listening to tunes, reading, browsing online...whatever. During the week I have to be up by 6-ish, but I still rarely get to bed before 1 in the morning. 8+ hours of sleep per night is nice, but I apparently don't need that much to function. If I had it my way, I'd prefer to sleep for only an hour or so a day...or not at all, even. There's just too much stuff to do - and too much music to listen to! Quote
patricia Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 (edited) I have always operated on about five hours of sleep, which is good right now, because I have 2 1/2 jobs, all part-time and scheduled, sometimes, back to back. I usually to to bed around 1am and am up at 6am, at the latest because I start the day with a two mile run. On rare days off I still sleep and am awake about the same hours. In fact, I'm quite antsy if I have a day off. None of my jobs start earlier than 9am, but I am quite often still working, at home, on paperwork until about midnight. Some days I do hours at all my jobs, with about an hour or so between them. I don't care about the temperature of the room or how many blankets are on the bed, as long as nobody has moved the bed out of the room. As for noise, bring it on. I'm asleep, if I'm lying down.
