TedR Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 That kind of logic solves an ongoing controversy. Francis Bacon was an author William Shakespeare was an author Therefore, Francis Bacon was William Shakespeare Proof that Shakespeare couldn't have written all those plays. Quote

That's just bad math. Bottom line - if you can't do math, don't drive European cars. Edited January 9, 2012 by JSngry Quote
JSngry Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 It's a false syllogism. To wit: A=B B=C Therefore, A=C Dogs are animals Cats are animals Therefore, all dogs are cats. Those two things aren't the same at all. Word. It's a good thing you teach English and not math! Yeah, that would be properly stated as Dogs(A) are animals(B) Animals(B) are cats© Therefore dogs and cats are both animals. Also: Dogs x Cats = Animals x Animals Dogs x Cats = Animals2 Proof that if you want animals to be square, start by breeding dogs and cats. Quote
.:.impossible Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Is this now officially considered a dogpile? Or is this a catpile? Or C: Everything is everything? Quote

Those two things aren't the same at all. Word. It's a good thing you teach English and not math! The syllogism is declaring that since A=B and B=C, A must be equal to B. My point was, that simply isn't the case in all things. Not bad math, faulty logic. Edited January 9, 2012 by GoodSpeak Quote

But if Francis Bacon was a painter. Shakespeare was a painter and no one wrote those plays Quote
JSngry Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Bacon is a breakfast food , Shakespeare a fishing reel, and all the world's a stage, so the plays write themselves. Quote
sonnymax Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 I think this steady diet of mindless tabloid material—whether linked to or pasted in—is both boring and out of place here. We all like a good laugh from time to time, but this is mostly Murdoch crap. I totally agree. Quote

Dan Gould Posted January 10, 2012 Report Posted January 10, 2012 To get back to what became the main thrust of this thread ... what has happened to aloc? I see that he posted in a Sam Rivers thread about fifteen minutes after he started this one, and hasn't been seen round here since. I know he's not banned because his account would display differently. Was he given a double-dog suspension? Is he embarrassed and left of his own volition? I didn't post with the intent of getting him in trouble. I just wanted him to do a better job of adhering to the rules. Quote
