AllenLowe Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 another McCarthurite - he plays nice (and fast) but something doesn't connect with me in his work. Any other opinions? Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 29, 2011 Report Posted December 29, 2011 Haven't heard that much of him (some on record, live last year with a small ensemble at the Chicago Jazz Festival (which was grim). Neither his pieces nor his playing have struck me as memorable by the standards of any ragtime composer I'm aware of. Probably the story behind Robinson's McArthur is the same as is the case fairly often there, or so it seems -- he's basically a human-interest story, plus for him there also was the home-town element. AllenLowe Posted December 29, 2011 Author Report Posted December 29, 2011 I kinda suspected that....the McArthur awards, when it comes to jazz/pop/whatever, seem seriously misguided. Quote
