Great singer and a really nice lady. She was a friend and teacher of a good friend of mine. Lee Wiley was her greatest influence. I saw her a bunch of times, but the best was a Hoagy's Children reunion with Bob Dorough and Dick Sudhalter. As a singer and as a person she was the quintessence of class.

A vastly underrated singer!

Met her at the Irridium club when she showed up at a Bob Dorough gig last time I was in New York (2005?). A very gracious lady and impeccable performer!

The two albums she recorded for Prestige are pure gems!

Love the two Prestige albums, too!

Either there's more than they contain or the discographies make a mess there... not sure, don't have any of the stuff at hand right now... or was there even a third LP?

Also, why is the harp player given for the one (great) track on the one album but then is given as unknown on the other one, when the harp tracks seem to stem from the same date?

I had forgotten that she went 20 years between recordings. I discovered her through Whitney Balliet's book, and when I told her that she couldn't say enough about how important that book was to her career. The funny thing is, my friend knew her for some years before Barbara told her she was a singer!
