BeBop Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Kidney Stem Cell treatment? Does Google Ads know something I don't? In my case, I'd say "yes": Master of Music Online Earn your Master of Music in Music Education Online. Free Brochure. Music.KentStateOnline.com Given historical perspective, I suppose if I was going to "attend" Kent State, online would be the way to do it. Edited January 4, 2012 by BeBop Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 I don't know what the pay-per-click is but it seems to me everyone, and I mean everyone, should make it their business to click on a couple of links everytime they drop by the board. A pain-free to way to defray Jim's costs, and given how often some people "drop by" maybe if people made a concerted effort we'd really make a dent in the costs of maintenance. Quote
JSngry Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 My only concern is picking up cookies and stuff that I'd rather not have. Is this unfounded? Quote
BillF Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) My only concern is picking up cookies and stuff that I'd rather not have. Is this unfounded? Not unfounded. A quick Norton and AdAware sweep shows just what's arrived. Edited January 4, 2012 by BillF Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 But it should be easy to clean that stuff out, right? Quote
BillF Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 But it should be easy to clean that stuff out, right? Yes, but having to do it is a nuisance. Quote

JSngry Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 I imagine that some of those cookies are necessary in order to insure payment. Is there anything worse than simple tracking cookies going on? Quote

JSngry Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 In America, the laxatives used to come with a vessel with which to consume them! And a towel to clean up the mess in case they did their job just a little too well. Nowadays, people just shit themselves and blame somebody else. Quote

Quincy Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 I keep getting ads for the new Real Book and for dating Asian chicks. Seriously. Much love for both concepts, but practical use for neither. Soooooooo, they know about Monday Michiru eh? Some of the time I'm getting a combination of Russian singles and Christian singles. But not Russian Orthodox singles. Quote

JSngry Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 Now I'm getting one that says that bananas are one of the five foods I must not eat. If one of the other four is menudo, I'm gonna be pissed... Quote
Leeway Posted January 4, 2012 Report Posted January 4, 2012 I think the specific types of ads are generated by other cookies on your browser, which would indicate your areas of interest. Quote
JSngry Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 I'm not interested in bananas, Real Books, dating anybody, Christian Mingle, Allen organs, Steinway pianos, the Charlotte School Of Music, or anything else this thing is presenting me with. Nor do I have any browsing history that indicates I might be. Plus, I get the same bits on my work computer as I do my home computer, and my work browsing is significantly more limited than my home browsing. I don't mind this thing being here, but the ad options repeatedly presented do not speak well to the efficiency and effectiveness of whatever technology is being used to target users. Quote
JSngry Posted January 5, 2012 Report Posted January 5, 2012 And also...speaking as somebody who fairly regularly deletes cookies of my computer manually/individually just to see what all's on there, i can tell you that cookies on your your computer do not reliably indicate "areas of interest". You can get stuff on there from a site you get on just to get an image, or one article, etc. Sports sites do this all the time, you go read one article and they put a whole bunch of other crap on there. I've got third-party cookies blocked on all my browsers, and still extraneous crap gets in. None of it's really "harmful", but it is a nuisance, and just because I check out a few Japanese music and sports sites (Yu Darvish is real) does not mean that I want to date Asian women. Quote
