Wendy's used to have a really good, basic, inexpensive, all-you-can-eat salad bar.

That was COOL!

pizza hut had a decent one, as well.

i'm guessing they've kicked theirs to the curb.

now they all want to serve beer and wine. the reason they can't now is the amount of underage help they use.

i'll try chipotle for the first time after christmas.

Chipotle (a good one, anyway) offers good flavor in Just Too Damn Big a portion size.

And I'm not ashamed to say that an occasional Whopper is much like the man who ran over the dog, in that they both hit the spot.

As to fast food, you Eastern guys are missing out on one of the best burger chains in the country:

in_n_out_logo-500x333.jpg

They recently came to the DFW area, and I doubt that I will ever try them.

Why?

Because my daughter applied for a position with them. My daughter is bright, sparkly, well-groomed, and fit what they said was their vibe perfectly.

Per her, the interview started out like this:

THEM: Are you a Christian?

HER: I have my beliefs...but...what does that have to do with hamburgers?

THEM: We have a certain culture here, and you might not fit in.

And it went downhill from there.

I'm sure they're good, but none for me, thanks.

IIRC, those type of questions are illegal to ask on an interview.

No, they're a privately held company, and are well within their rights to ask whatever they want to ask, just as I am free to not eat wherever I want to not eat.

The funny thing is, my daughter actually is a Christian, albeit a totally Zen-ish one. The apple didn't fall far from the tree on that one.

I thought chick-fil-a was the Bible-thumpers restaurant, hmmm.

I've seen all kinds of folks working at the Chik-Fil-A spots here...

I kinda dig them not being open on Sundays, actually. Not for "religious" reasons, just because I think it's a good idea to give everything a break sometimes, including, especially including, business.

I tried In N Out for the first time in August in Las Vegas. Their burgers are on par with Five Guys, if you ask me. Five Guys' fries beat them handily though.

I thought most folks knew that In N Out were a religious chain, like Chik Fil A. Doesn't bother me one way or the other as a customer, but I'd definitely want to know that if I were considering working for them. It would be a different culture.

from my trips to vegas,, the carls jr. burgers compared favorably to in and out burgers.

I never understood the idea of being able to eat the same crap, no matter where in the world you are... but I guess I have a continental mind ;)

is it really the same crap??

the chinese incarnation of a big mac may be something other than what some of us westerners kill ourselves with.

On my one visit to the US I found the beef in a MacDonalds burger tasted different to the UK version.

Only natural, I suppose. British cows stand in fields looking over gates waiting for a passing composer to rhapsodise them. American cows have to run miles over plains being chased in and out of rivers. Must affect the flavour.

perhaps to flagellate them? today's crop of british compoasers don't amount to much.

I had no idea. But I can guarantee you they don't ask any religious questions when applying at the Los Angeles outlets. Must be a Texas thing.
