B. Goren. Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Cape Verde's 'barefoot diva' Cesaria Evora dies. Quote
king ubu Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Oh, wow, that's sad! Caught her live a few years back, short but sweet concert... r.i.p. Quote
Van Basten II Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Wow, she recently retired from the scene, RIP indeed. Quote
Noj Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 I'm a fan. Acquired an album of club mixes of her music a while back, then sought out some of the originals Beautiful singing. RIP Quote
mikeweil Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 (edited) What sad news ..... I heard a song with her during a vacation on the island of Lanzarote a few years ago, but the shop owner couldn't tell me details (the curse of badly managed MP3 downloads), but when I described it a year later to the guy who runs London's leading world music store, he instantly knew who it was and pulled the CD. Turned out she was only a guest on that CD, but I'll never forget that ... R.I.P. Edited December 17, 2011 by mikeweil Quote
paul secor Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 Terrible news. There are singers and there are voices. She had a wonderful haunting voice. Goodbye and thanks, Ms. Evora. Quote
Dmitry Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) One of my favorite voices of all. I really enjoy Cape Verdean music, and go to a local restaurant that features Cabo Verde cuisine [polvo, baby, polvo!] and live music almost nightly. It's called the Ten Rocks, on the Provdence-Pawtucket line. Cesaria Evora's [last name's stress on the E] voice gives me goosebumps, and it soothes at the same time. Billie Holiday's voice was like that. It makes you enjoy just about any song they would sing. Edited March 28, 2017 by Dmitry Quote
