I'm a fan. Acquired an album of club mixes of her music a while back, then sought out some of the originals Beautiful singing. RIP

What sad news ..... I heard a song with her during a vacation on the island of Lanzarote a few years ago, but the shop owner couldn't tell me details (the curse of badly managed MP3 downloads), but when I described it a year later to the guy who runs London's leading world music store, he instantly knew who it was and pulled the CD. Turned out she was only a guest on that CD, but I'll never forget that ... R.I.P.

Terrible news. There are singers and there are voices. She had a wonderful haunting voice.

One of my favorite voices of all. I really enjoy Cape Verdean music, and go to a local restaurant that features Cabo Verde cuisine [polvo, baby, polvo!] and live music almost nightly. It's called the Ten Rocks, on the Provdence-Pawtucket line.

Cesaria Evora's [last name's stress on the E] voice gives me goosebumps, and it soothes at the same time. Billie Holiday's voice was like that. It makes you enjoy just about any song they would sing.
