Isn't what Allen is complaining about all about "credit where credit is due" and there being a LOT more "elderly" musicians who'd - on the basis of their musical chops - merit some sort of resurrection a lot more than this guy here?

I did not find much to hold me spellbound in those clips, so I really cannot help wondering what the fuss is all about either (this pianist's family ties to a noted jazz artist notwithstanding). Or is it ok to the degree shown here that eventually it's all about making up headlines for the sake of the headlines?

There is not enough playing on the video (that I saw) to make a fair judgement.

He may be warming up; Getting to know the piano. The music may have been highly edited.

The CD will tell the true story.

I was offended that the first article was presented as a heart warming, uplifting story.

Edit:

I've now heard the 'Round Midnight massacre.

Maybe years ago in his youth he played better.

If I was in a bar where he was playing I would leave quickly.

I know just the (alleged) bass player for him :-)

Why yes, of course!

To me, his life is not up lifting.

To present it as so is phony.

Henry Grimes's rebirth...a qualified yes.

Just out of curiousity, is the suicide rate in the Netherlands particularly high compared to the rest of the world? In the spirit of the season, have you seen "Its a Wonderful Life"? Or is that also phony?

Jesus, you barely acknowledge that Henry Grimes last few years is a "good" story.

Just let me be direct: What the fuck is the matter with you?

You're allowed to dislike me. We don't have the same world view.

BTW, playing with Mr. Grimes in 1966 was a peak experience for me, musically.

For the whole day he was very unkind to me. Very negative. BUT...one second before we started playing the first tune I felt a huge wave of positive energy behind me that continued to the end of the last tune. It must have been shortly after that he stopped playing.
