brownie Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 This does not belong to the Mosaic thread but nevertheless it sounds interesting... From The Boston Globe today: The Mosaic Project Quote
ejp626 Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 As soon as I hear E. Spalding is involved, I tune out. Not at all interested in her work after suffering through one of her concerts. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 Nothing against an all female set, but Spalding has not been around that long to get the treatment of a Mosaic. I'm sure there are many women that are not apart of this set that should be included. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 This is not associated with Mosaic Records, right? Just using the word "Mosaic' . . . . I think anything Geri Allen puts her attention to is at least worth investigating. What a talent. Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I agree with the beginning of the article: "It shouldn't be this way..." Though not in the way the writer meant. Quote
Lazaro Vega Posted December 9, 2011 Report Posted December 9, 2011 I've been enjoying this recording. This looks like the first record Patric Rushen's made since Mike Clark put her back in a straight ahead context, and whatever she did in the past, on this she's solid; with Helen Sung and Geri she helps lay down a solid foundation on this album, and both Tineke Postma and Ingrid Jensen wail over it. A scattershot affair programatically, but for pulling out pieces individually this has been a kick (Michelle, Mosaic Triad and Insomiac). Esperanza's "Crayola" is one of her original love songs, which have their own vibe to them, only on this one she gets away with saying "shit" as in "I'm not going to put with your sh---" in a relationship song. Still need to read the article in the link above. Quote

But speaking of the Stamford Mosaic, Geri Allen's Blue Notes would make a fine Select, though oop copies are available on Amazon for very cheap. Quote

She was on Stanley Clarke's standards trio set a few years ago and to me, the best player of the three. Quote
