GA Russell Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Harry Morgan of December Bride, Pete & Gladys, Dragnet and MASH fame has passed away at 96. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2011/12/07/mash-star-harry-morgan-dies-at-age-6/?test=faces Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Enjoyed his dry Midwestern wit on Dragnet especially. Also, anyone know what the connection is between Morgan and the so-called Birth of the Cool band? Quote
Tom 1960 Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Funny, I was channel surfing the other day and came across an old MASH rerun. I thought gosh he must be dead by now. Well I was off by a few days, not making light of things. He sure had a rich and fulfilling life. Thanks Harry for the great memories. Quote
ValerieB Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 wow, i'm another one who didn't know he was still around!! i always appreciated his dry wit. sure brings back memories of '50s tv. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) harry's roles were too numerous to mention, or even recall. the timing between morgan and webb on the first dragnet was magnificent. he must have been a really quick study. he was also on a 50s show december bride. do i remember him from the film stalag 17? Larry Kart Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 From The Glenn Miller Story to Dragnet to MASH I've long been a fan. RIP. In "The Glenn Miller Story," Morgan played pianist Chummy MacGregor, composer of "Moon Dreams," later arranged so handsomely by Gil Evans for the Birth of the Cool band. Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 First recording of "Moon Dreams" (by Martha Tilton) was also the first recording made by Capitol Records: Quote
Big Al Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) Always liked his roles in "Support Your Local Sheriff" and "Support Your Local Gunfighter." RIP Edited December 8, 2011 by Big Al Quote
Larry Kart Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Quite a band that was, and Desmond was a fine singer. I also like the shorter version on "The Secret Broadcasts" -- great sound. Quote
brownie Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 Missed his TV career but I was a fan of his film appearances, as with Henry Fonda in 'Ox Bow Incident' and in 'Bend of the River' (with James Stewart) and in numerous other films. Quote

Dave James Posted December 8, 2011 Report Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) My favorite Morgan role was Officer Bill Gannon in the reconstituted Dragnet series from the late 60's and early 70's. Outside of the drug related episodes which were always highly amusing, the one episode I remember most vividly was one where Friday and Gannon were working a case involving the theft and fencing of fur coats where a legit furrier taught Gannon how to act like he knew he way around a mink coat. I don't know why I remember that episode so well, but for whatever reason, it's stuck with me all these years.. Anyhow, here's a little something Dragnet fans and fans of Morgan might find amusing. Terrific dead panning and the usual impeccable timing from Benny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_P1uXrS2TFA Edited December 8, 2011 by Dave James Quote

It STILL works brilliantly! Best line, IMO, belongs to Morgan at the end! Quote
GA Russell Posted December 9, 2011 Author Report Posted December 9, 2011 I prefer Jack Benny's radio shows to the tv shows because the sound effects of the car and going to down the money vault are more funny than seeing the picture. Quote
