I picked this up from Amazon for under $30. Nine CD's, all but one of the albums has bonus material. Wildly uneven, but some gorgeous stuff as Ms. Simone seeks to come to terms with the burgeoning late 60's - early 70's rock and political scenes.

Got mine from amazon.fr yesterday - but handed it over to my li'l sis', still sealed... will get it again when this commercial thingie is celebrated, ya know... the guy who came a second time a few years later and did all those great tricks

The music is a rag-bag indeed... got much of it on various more or less cheaply made compilations (UK RCA ones mostly, I think). Some of it - the solo album, for instance - is sublime!

Mine arrived early last week. I had about half of this material and liked it. I'm enjoying these sets and like the trend. They found yet another way for me to rebuy material! Congrats to them!

My Amazon pre-order for the Sam Cooke RCA box got cancelled due to lack of stock and the one for this Simone set has been delayed because of low stock.

You can get it a good bit cheaper through some of the third party sellers on Amazon Marketplace.

I have the Nina Simone now (the Cooke was cancelled, and I re-ordered from a non-Amazon seller). Did anyone else notice that the two bonus tracks are missing from disc 1 ("Nina Sings the Blues")?

Yes, they're missing alright. Sigh. That's the only difference I've seen between the previous Legacy cds and this set.

I noticed that, but also noticed that I hated that whole album (by far weakest in the set), and that one of the two missing cuts is an alternate take, so I'm not sweating it.

I haven't located my copy of that one, but the cd in the set has 15 tracks.

Okay, that's one more then... the bonus cuts on the previous CD are:

11 - Music for Lovers

12 - In Love in Vain

13 - I'll Look Around

14 - The Man with the Horn

The extra one is a live take of "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" from a concert in Munich in April of '69. More from that concert is included as extra tracks on other discs in the set.

Thanks! Looking forward a lot to x-mas when I'll get mine, then :excited:

The entire Sony (Columbia / RCA / others) complete albums box set series is simply excellent and a great bargain, but as everything lately it had a very limited pressing run and is usually sold out very quickly.

The Nina Simone box is a mixed bag, but overall it captures her best years, which are truly magnificent.

The Sam Cooke box is also quite excellent, even if his early output in somewhat "oversugary", but his voice melts steel!

Other excellent boxes include Stan Getz, Wayne Shorter, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond and Fusion stuff like Chick Corea, George Duke and Stanley Clarke.

The non-Jazz boxes, like The Byrds, are also excellent.
