Christiern Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 My favorite Ken Russell films are the ones he made when he worked for the BBC—genius biographical gems on such people as Delius, Isadora Duncan and Debussy Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 The trailer for his Mahler film, shown on TV in the mid-70s, was the thing that lured me into Mahler - a wonderful chord and then a lakeside hut bursts into flame. Didn't see the film until much later and found it too flamboyant for my taste. Quote

mikeweil Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 (edited) My favorite Ken Russell films are the ones he made when he worked for the BBC—genius biographical gems on such people as Delius, Isadora Duncan and Debussy Probably mine too. These were my introduction to Russell's work. He also made films about Bohuslav Martinu and Arnold Bax - a bit over the top, but brilliant! Those features on musicians were my first conscious encounter with his work, although I had seen Women in Love and others before. Edited November 28, 2011 by mikeweil Quote
Leeway Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 "Women in Love" is a superb film, I think KR's best. Many of his other films are of interest, but I think everything really came together for him on this film: story, actors, cinematography. Quote
