Daniel A Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 Later this week I'll be on a short business trip to Basel, Switzerland. I'll be having a few free hours on Thursday afternoon and I'm looking for recommendatons for jazz record shops in the city. Would be grateful for any suggestions. Quote
sidewinder Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 There definitely is a specialist vinyl store there with lots of jazz (or at least there was one, some years ago) as a colleague picked up several titles for me (Several Jackie McLean titles - can't remember what the place was called or where it was I'm afraid). Prices were high, even with a 50% discount ! Hopefully when the King logs in, he will be able to answer this one in depth. Quote
Daniel A Posted November 29, 2011 Author Report Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Thanks Bob, though if it was Roxy Records, it seems to be gone: http://bazonline.ch/basel/region/Ende-Musik--Das-Roxy-geht-Konkurs/story/14001076 Edited November 29, 2011 by Daniel A Quote
Niko Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 after reading this forum thread (tell me if you need anything translated) http://forum.rollingstone.de/showthread.php?t=32598&page=3 (and guessing that shops which still maintain their websites still exist) i have come up with these two shops: http://www.plattfon.ch/ http://www.ohrwurm-oase.ch/ and possibly "Atlantis Records" at Elisabethenstrasse 41 (not anymore at Klosterberg 9) Quote
king ubu Posted November 29, 2011 Report Posted November 29, 2011 Sorry, can't help - never went to Basle shopping for rekkids... too bad you don't visit Zurich (not that I knew too many record stores here, either, but we could have a beer together)! rockefeller center was living in Basle last time I heard of, but the CD-buying folks won't necessarily know good stores nowadays (I do buy vinyl, occasionally, but I don't go around searching for it too hardly).from the discussion Niko linked to: this one looks good: http://www.ohrwurm-oase.ch/ should have some jazz, too - click the menu links on the left side to find a map and opening hours etc.maybe this one, too: http://www.plattfon.ch/about/sorry Niko, didn't look close enough to see you posted those links already... Daniel A Posted November 30, 2011 Author Report Posted November 30, 2011 Thanks, guys! I'll seek out the shops you've mentioned, and even if they don't have anything of interest (or if they don't even exist anymore) it will be as good a way as any to spend tomorrow afternoon. Quote
sidewinder Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Thanks Bob, though if it was Roxy Records, it seems to be gone: http://bazonline.ch/basel/region/Ende-Musik--Das-Roxy-geht-Konkurs/story/14001076 Hi Daniel - I have a feeling that it was, indeed, Roxy Records. Have a great time in Basel and happy CD/LP hunting ! Quote
king ubu Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Btw, there are a few very interesting art exhibitions going on in Basel - haven't seen them yet: http://www.kunstmuseumbasel.ch/en/home/ http://www.fondationbeyeler.ch/en/Home You'll need to take the tram to get to the second, but the first one is right in the centre (and they've got an amazing collection, parts of which are on display permanently). Not sure if that's of interest to you at all, just thought I'd mention it in case! Quote
