Got any more? Yeah, I carry that one around on my MP3 player and have posted it out on Facebook in the last couple of months. Had the 45 back in the day. Quote
felser Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 This one could have been a huge hit ca. 1968 if AM radio stations hadn't cringed at the "Damn" in the title. Spanky & Our Gang - Give a Damn Quote

Got any more? Just about anything by The Association. See if you can find one they did called Rose Petals Incense and a Kitten. Unfortunately, It's not on YouTube. It was on and album called BIrthday the same one that included Everything That Touches You. Here's a "what were they thinking" for you. When I saw The Association many years ago in Portland, Iron Butterfly was the opening act. Quote

That's quite a bill, right up there w/Hendrix opening for The Monkees! The Free Design...those were Rusty Dedrick's kids, right? HEad about them, but this is my first time knowingly hearing them. Kites are fun! Batshit crazy! Quote
RDK Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 (edited) From one of my favorite albums of the last ten years or so... This is more of the era. I've really been digging this album too... Edited November 11, 2011 by RDK Quote
felser Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 (edited) 1967s Gary Usher production on Columbia. Lead vocal by Glen Campbell (yes, that Glen Campbell) of all people! felser Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Sunshine Pop on the outside, alienation lament on the inside. Quote
JSngry Posted November 12, 2011 Author Report Posted November 12, 2011 Batshit crazy changes before the chorus tries to normalize things, but it's too late by then... Quote
kenny weir Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 I have three Free Design albums. Will get more. Barely a weak track - much more than a greatest hits band. Heavyweight jazz dudes in the band. Vocals like angels. Goofball humour. Sometimes it's the only thing that works. Quote
kenny weir Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Kiwi chick singer has huge smash hit folk pop classic Then records two albums - available on one CD - hippy dippy soft psyche sunshine pop with west coast band. Not "batshit crazy", but another sunshine pop fave: Oh my! Swoon, swoon! Quote
kenny weir Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Like Kites Are Fun, also from the Free Design's first album. Sunshine pop perfection! Quote
JSngry Posted November 12, 2011 Author Report Posted November 12, 2011 (edited) Not particularly good, but batshit crazy nevertheless. I do not have the imagination necessary to imagine how some of those chords....got put together in that sequence...and were allowed to stay there...but that's part of the interest in "bad music"..parallel/alternate universes and all that... Everything else on this thread has not been bad music. But this one is. Bad, but batshit crazy bad. Edited November 12, 2011 by JSngry Quote

Joe Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Wendy and Bonnie... IIRC, Gary McFarland had hand in arranging / producing this... Quote
felser Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 Sunshine Company - Back On My Feet Again. Scraped the Top 40 in 1967 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFT7Xt6li3QDon't know how "good" this one is, but it is crazy, with the phased vocals. Two bizarre aspects, first, these guys looked like the freaking Four Preps, with their crew cuts and matching suits. Second, this strange mess of a record somehow went to #20 on the pop charts in 1969. Quote

felser Posted November 12, 2011 Report Posted November 12, 2011 I'm actually quite fond of that Cowsill's track. And they did some other fine records also. And Susan Cowsill went on to do some other very interesting work later on. Quote
JSngry Posted November 12, 2011 Author Report Posted November 12, 2011 Not exactly batshit crazy, but this one takes some unexpected turns along the way, including a chorus that isn't really.....wouldn't have expected this from The Cowsills Quote
