paul secor Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 (edited) Don't know if this has been presented here before: http://youtu.be/5sfiN9tvcbM There were clips available on Youtube some time ago, but they were deleted. I believe that this is the first time it's been available there in its entirety. Anyone with an interest in Cecil Taylor should see it. Edited November 8, 2011 by paul secor Quote

Lazaro Vega Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 Just watched all of it: enough aphoristic quotes to fill a book. He seemed especially proud of what Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane had to say about his music. Quote

Lazaro Vega Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 They did collaborate in Berlin, remember, released on that giant FMP box. The rehearsal sequence with the band here is insightful as he orchestrates all the parts from the piano. Quote

robertoart Posted March 13, 2012 Report Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) I just watched this a few nights ago. Thanks to this thread. Taylor is the only major figure of the sixties avant-garde whose music I have not listened too (a lot). It was a fascinating watch. I was unprepared for how camp he is. It's not something to expect in the context of the earnest Black music 'movement'. It seemed Taylor was connected to a contemporary scene I associate with the city to city 'art festival' culture. Something where I expect to see Phillip Glass, or (heaven forbid), Lou Reed trudging out their latest tired project. I doubt the consumers of these things would have the synapses to sit through a Cecil Taylor recital (honestly). Some might though. Edited March 13, 2012 by freelancer Quote
