jazzbo
It's on the site that he listed, when you choose an artist they take you to a page with each cd as a link to the disc's details. It seems that the Armstrong is now the same prices as the others on amazon.fr Edited November 30, 2011 by jazzbo
Fer Urbina
That looks mighty good! Where did you find the listing? In jazzmasters.fr. That, and a bit of formatting. I got the Ella, and it looks impressive. I caught an apparent typo (caption: surely Ray Brown wasn't playing with Ella and Louis Jordan in 1940 - nice photo, though), but it does look good. Liners are by Alain Tercinet, about 14 pages in French, around same in English, plus interspersed pics, and discography (booklet is 68 pages, size is slightly under an A5). Haven't listened to it yet. It seems that the Armstrong is now the same prices as the others on amazon.fr Still weird difference in Amazon.co.uk, although is "out of stock", so maybe price will be changed when stock is back. EKE BBB
Thanks for listing the discographical info from the Bechet set! I must compare it to my Bechet collection, as I own quite a few single CDs and boxed sets from that period.

jazzbo
The only one where I would have a gap would be the Ella set, and the gap isn't that large. Great sets for new collectors of these artists!

mjzee
I'm curious about the Armstrong, especially how it compares to the Mosaic. I've just compared - the new box contains all the master takes of the Mosaic, except for session QQ (8/9/44) - which is weird because it was a Decca date - and session SS (1/18/46) - presumably because it's after 1945. crisp
I was eyeing up copies of all these in the Paris stores this week. They look good! Do we know yet if they are remastered from original sources or from 78s, LPs or even older CDs?
J.A.W.
I was eyeing up copies of all these in the Paris stores this week. They look good! Do we know yet if they are remastered from original sources or from 78s, LPs or even older CDs? As was mentioned over on the Hoffman site these French sets were mastered by Studio 101, but I understand no further info is given in the booklets. crisp
That's interesting. First time I've heard of a major label releasing an EU public doman set. If I were Mosaic I'd be having a word with Universal about the Armstrong!
