chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 i do not have these two in my collection: The Polynesians- Aloha To Jazz (Bel Canto) Buddy Collette- Polynesia (Music + Sound) has -anyone- of you heard these two, and if so can you comment. aboustely need these in my collection Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 The former has Buddy Collette only on side 2. The latter is a great exotica LP including narration and vocals by the great Marni Nixon. If you want exotica, you really need both. However, if you want Buddy Collette LPs, you can probably live without both. I would not part with either. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 29, 2011 Author Report Posted October 29, 2011 are they really both just really small LA labels... Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 They are small labels, can't confirm if they're LA or not. Both are impossible to find. They are available as downloads if you look in the right places. I would recommend downloading both before you seek out vinyl. You will have a long wait, and they'll cost you. In the mean time, how about spinning "Jazz Heat, Bongo Beat," one of my favorite LPs from the Crown label, featuring Buddy Collette and the Latin Jazz All Stars? Quote
Hot Ptah Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 To hear individual songs from these albums, check the archived playlists at: http://kpr.ku.edu/retro/ Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Music + Sound was apparently a small LA label and Polynesia is the only record they released. Goes for about $200. Cool cover. Quote

I was lucky. After hearing "Polynesia" several years ago on Kansas Public Radio's "Retro Cocktail Hour" show, created and hosted by Darrell Brogden, I was able to find a copy of "Polynesia" on ebay for a fraction of what has been quoted in this thread. sidewinder Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 (edited) Trunk Records here in the UK have just issued a vinyl reissue of ‘Polynesia’. Nicely done, good sound - and currently in stock at Dusty. Music + Sound were out of Arizona I think, not LA and this was likely a private (or semi private) release, hence the scarcity. Teasing the Korean Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 (edited) Side 2 of Polynesia is incredible. The poetry sounds like the delusional, fever-dream ramblings of a shipwrecked sailor who has contracted a tropical disease. Which is one of the highest compliments I could possibly pay to a record. sidewinder Posted September 21, 2019 Report Posted September 21, 2019 With recitation by actor Robert Sorrells, subsequently to become a convicted murderer. Exotic, indeed ! Quote
