Victor Christensen Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Don't forget his solo on "Four Brothers" with Woody Herman (1948), BTW I knew him a little while he lived here in Copenhagen, not a very nice person. Vic Quote
mr jazz Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 (edited) Listening to Anniversary for the first time... amazing. If you're enjoying that one, then be sure to check out it's sister recording, "Serenity". Both Anniversary and Serenity are great albums! My library, of all places, had these. I love when you can access good music and get some bang for your tax buck I first heard Anniversary from a library copy but quickly purchased it and bought Serenity when it was released. Getz was a jerk (probably due to alcoholism and his bi-polarity issues) but maybe my favorite tenor player. Edited February 3, 2011 by mr jazz Quote
king ubu Posted February 3, 2011 Report Posted February 3, 2011 Played the first two discs of the "People Time" box again last night - beautiful, beautiful music! Quote
Guy Berger Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Listening to Blue Skies on Concord... I think I like this one better than the admittedly great Serenity and Anniversary. Some absolutely gorgeous music. Seems to anticipate the Lloyd ECM recordings, which might turn some people off. I also introduced myself to the Laurindo Almeida collaboration for the first time. Very nice! Guy Quote

mr jazz Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Voyage is at the top of my Getz list-his sound is warm and relaxed, reflective of this happy period in his life. Quote
johnlitweiler Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I'm playing 'Dynasty' tonight, a favorite - did SG ever play more dramatic solos? Eddy Louiss is a good scenery-chewer, too. Quote
WorldB3 Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Been enjoying this one a lot as of late, it just got the Joe Tarratino - remaster treatment and re-issue last month. Quote
Guy Berger Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 Listening to the Shrine recording from 1954 for the first time. Great music. Love hearing Getz and Bob Brookmeyer weaving around each other! Not as emotionally "deep" as the 80s/90s music, but it makes up for that with the enthusiasm of youth. Guy Quote
