brownie Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 I have acquired several volumes from the Jazz Solography series by Jan Evensmo in the past and found them quite useful. Recently, Evensmo opened a website that features a number of his documents. Jazz Archeology One of the best site of its kind! Quote
mracz Posted October 26, 2011 Report Posted October 26, 2011 What an amazing on-line resource. I look forward to browsing through it at the w/e. I'm already intrigued by his identification of early Dupree Bolton solos... Have I misremembered, or did he do a Lester Young solography as well? I'd find this very useful for working through the 1943-44 Basie airchecks (ie which ones actually have Pres solos), but that's the subject for another post! Quote
brownie Posted October 26, 2011 Author Report Posted October 26, 2011 Have I misremembered, or did he do a Lester Young solography as well? He did. I have a beaten up copy somewhere... Hope it turns up soon on this Archeology site, along with his other volumes such as the ones on Chu Berry, Hawkins, Budd Johnson, Bill Coleman, Frankie Newton, etc... Quote
