mikelz777 Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Legit enough for me. Thanks for the notice! Of the eight, I only have When Farmer Met Gryce and Rat Race Blues. I've wanted several of the others but some of them are pretty pricy on the current market. At this kind of price, I won't mind the overlap of two out of the eight. Quote
Royal Oak Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Aren't those all from different labels too? I have most of them, so won't be buying. It's awfully cheap for a lot of nice Gryce. Quote
mikeweil Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Ah - nice price for so much nice Gryce, indeed! Quote
Free For All Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Ah - nice price for so much nice Gryce, indeed! Nice price for the Gryce vice. Quote
Royal Oak Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) It does entice. Roll the dice, pay the price, add some spice with this slice of nice Gryce. Don't make me say it twice, buy online and get it in a trice. I'm imagining Oscar Brown junior saying this as I type... Edited October 19, 2011 by rdavenport Quote
jazzbo Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Well, I paid that much for just one of the eight! (I have all eight). Great music. Quote
John Tapscott Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I wonder how many CD's? Four? When I went on to cduniverse, I was only charged the shipping rate for 1 CD! Quote
JETman Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Well, I paid that much for just one of the eight! (I have all eight). Great music. Agreed, but I didn't realize that Reminiscin' had been issued on cd. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 (edited) Don't have many of these on CD so will likely order. Apparently the label is 'Real Gone Jazz'. German/Dutch label? Edited October 20, 2011 by sidewinder Quote
brownie Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Real Gone Jazz have released recently similar sets by Hank Mobley, Red Garland, Kenny Dorham and others. The sets look good. No idea how they sound. But they are darn cheap... The Gryce box seems to be a true bargain! Quote
JohnS Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Nice set, I'd be on it like a shot but I have all the music. Quote
David Ayers Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Nice set, I'd be on it like a shot but I have all the music. Well then, give the gift of lurve - it's on my amazon wishlist... Quote
Guy Berger Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Legit enough for me. Thanks for the notice! Of the eight, I only have When Farmer Met Gryce and Rat Race Blues. I've wanted several of the others but some of them are pretty pricy on the current market. At this kind of price, I won't mind the overlap of two out of the eight. Nica's Tempo has the Monk-Gryce session with Gallop's Gallop, Brake's Sake and Shuffle Boil - this is absolutely essential for Monk fans, absolutely essential. Guy Quote

No idea how they sound. But they are darn cheap... The Gryce box seems to be a true bargain! Here's an overview over the series: Click! I think I will go for the Gryce set - I have only one or two of them on LP - I will report about the sound. Quote
LarryCurleyMoe Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 My link !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
ejp626 Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I wonder how many CD's? Four? When I went on to cduniverse, I was only charged the shipping rate for 1 CD! I believe it is 4. They have a few other 8 album sets and they were all 4 CDs. No idea about sound quality, but it is hard to beat that price for the Gryce! Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I must say its ironic, given how Gryce felt about the industry and the way it treats musicians, that we are celebrating the reissue of his music at such a remarkably cheap price. How can there be any question as to the illegitimacy of this reissue? Then again, he's dead and buried so we might as well enjoy what we can get. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Reading what few customer reviews I could find of their sets they seem to be generally greeted favorably, though there are those who complain that some are bad sounding, even worse than decent needle drops. Likely, you get what you pay for, and that's that. Quote
JSngry Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 Looking at that whole series, it just creeps me out. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I know what you mean. This could be the most viable future of jazz reissues. GRRR. Quote
JSngry Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I'd rather "steal" free FLAC files from sharity blogs than pay for stuff like this. Quote
Royal Oak Posted October 20, 2011 Report Posted October 20, 2011 I know what you mean. This could be the most viable future of jazz reissues. GRRR. I'm not sure any future jazz reissues are viable, seriously. Quote
