GA Russell Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 RIP. I learned just a couple of weeks ago that Pete Rugolo did the music for the Richard Diamond TV show. I thought about picking it up then, so maybe I'll get it the next time I get an Amazon download. Quote

Pete C Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 One for the pantheon of arrangers. But half the time I see RIP threads I say "I had no idea he was still alive." Quote

Free For All Posted October 17, 2011 Report Posted October 17, 2011 One for the pantheon of arrangers. But half the time I see RIP threads I say "I had no idea he was still alive." I will admit to not knowing he was still around. RIP. Quote
GA Russell Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 Don't forget these gems: Thanks ghost! I had forgotten about Something Cool. I've got it playing now. Quote
brownie Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) Not only a great arranger but also a great A&R man. He was responsible for signing Miles Davis, Lennie Tristano and others to Capitol Records in the late 40s. Edited October 18, 2011 by brownie Quote
sidewinder Posted October 18, 2011 Report Posted October 18, 2011 (edited) This is sad to hear. Did actually get to see him conduct one one occasion - a recreation of the June Christy 'Something Cool' material. I thought at the time I was lucky to see it and I was right. RIP Mr Rugolo. ghost of miles Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 Playlist for today's Just You and Me: Pete Rugolo Pt. 2 I'd forgotten how much good Rugolo there is on that mid-1940s Kenton Mosaic set. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 20, 2011 Author Report Posted October 20, 2011 About 6 years ago, my wife got Pete's phone number and was going to call him in connection with some liner notes she was writing. It turned out that she had enough material and we never called. I kind of regret it now. Quote
