I have to say, I love rain - though I'd prefer it warm. I just read the biog of Kenneth Williams and he felt the same - it's the way it deters other people and keeps the pavements clear. Also I don't have much hair to get messed up.

Lots of flooding at present though all it's done in the Midlands is glower. The south east seems to have got the worst of it.

Friday looks dreadful!

And yet:

The Met Office said the UK was still below its average rainfall for the time of year.

Between January and May, 392.5mm of rain fell across the country, compared to an average of 439mm.

Must be a barbecue summer just up ahead!

Glower? Typo, dialect or poetic licence?

You're not going all Grammar Police on me, Bill?

glower

[no object]

have an angry or sullen look on one’s face; scowl:

she glowered at him suspiciously

[as adjective]: (glowering)

his father’s glowering face

noun

[in singular]

an angry or sullen look:

the angry glower on the face of the policeman

Derivatives

gloweringly

Origin:

late 15th century: perhaps a Scots variant of synonymous dialect glore, or from obsolete glow 'to stare', both possibly of Scandinavian origin

Guess it must be poetic licence. :smirk:

something most disturbing and disconcerting has happened in London today, the sky's changed colour to this very unusual (but not unpleasant) shade of blue. Also, there's an uncomfortably bright light emanating from above which appears to bring warmth - help!

I did a 250 mile drive South from Lancashire today down the M6 and couldn't believe the number of storm transitions I went through. For some reason, Stoke and thereabouts was the epicentre of the worst of it. Grim !

I always found Art a bit wet

He spent a great deal of time trying to bridge troubled waters which might explain it. With bright eyes like his you'd think he'd be able to steer clear.

Have you noticed this thread seems to have become a British preserve? We're living up to our stereotype, guys!

But of course. We've got to be good at something.

We used to be very good at invading other countries. Even better at making out that we were doing it for their own good.

Too true. And we have a particularly bad couple of expensive and ill-advised "Exhibit As" from the not very distant past. Needless to say, I ain't talking about the Falklands..

Back to the main bill - sun's out ! :)
