BillF Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 Hottest October day in England today since records began: 29.9C (83F) in London and 28C here. So, just like a very warm July day, but then it gets dark by 6:30 p.m. Weird! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 Nuts - especially the way that around 6.00 it suddenly turns from blazing to dark and cool. Not good for kids in classrooms! 'Sir, it's too 'ot to wok.' Quote

paul secor Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 I'm just waiting for a couple weeks of dry weather. Perhaps Mother Nature can ship some of our daily rain to Texas. Quote

Weather seems to be crap North of Newcastle.. You don't have to go that far. Overcast here this morning - after a spooky red sunrise. Really? Absolutely superb down here. Painting all complete and enough time to harvest the blackberries along the lane at the front of my place. Bliss ! Why do you think the Romans gave up at that point? Hadrian's Wall was beyond their comfort zone, even then. Of course, not many 'real' Romans served there - more likely troops from the subject territories of Germania, Bosnia, Turkey, Romania etc. It always makes me laugh when I hear about our chief export to the Roman Empire back in those times. An oil-impregnated woollen cloak for keeping the weather out, worthy of Winter hobbit fashion. Sort of "proto-hoody". Edited October 2, 2011 by sidewinder Quote

BERIGAN Posted October 2, 2011 Report Posted October 2, 2011 Fantastic weather the last few days. Perfect for painting the windows. We are now confirming the stereotype that English people love to talk about the weather..... Heh, I'm sure it couldn't be half as bad as it is in the states. Drizzle can be the top story on the local news... Meanwhile, fall has come a bit early to the ATL, only in the 40's this am! Quote
sidewinder Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Painting all complete and enough time to harvest the blackberries along the lane at the front of my place. Bliss ! You really know how to live the Jazz Life don't you, sidewinder! 3rd harvest this season ! - and there's still more to come. I always said that the blackberries within an arc of 20 miles around this neck of the woods were the best on the planet and I don't think I'm far wrong. Quote
Royal Oak Posted October 3, 2011 Report Posted October 3, 2011 Still unseasonably warm today. Can't complain, doing an outdoor job. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 I'm having to open all doors at 6am just to cool the place down ! Quote
paul secor Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 More rain today. Supposed to be dry for the next 5 days starting tomorrow. Hope so - enough of the wet stuff. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 This year we had I think 190 days 90 degrees and over, and more than 70 consecutive 100 degree plus days. Finally last night and this morning we're getting rain! The first rain since June 20! It's wonderful. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Going to work shortly. The weatherman is calling for upwards of a foot or possibly more of snow beginning midday! ! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Still astoundingly warm. I've got a wasps nest in the front garden - as most of the flowers are gone they are heading for some flowery things on the front hedge. Just had to cut it back. Apart from one wet day the last week has been beautiful. Quote
