mikeweil Posted September 30, 2011 Author Report Posted September 30, 2011 I absolutely love this album, but this is a modern style conga drum with metal tuning lugs, not what I had in mind - I think of low technology drums, from any continent. Quote
seeline Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) I absolutely love this album, but this is a modern style conga drum with metal tuning lugs, not what I had in mind - I think of low technology drums, from any continent. Low tech can be deceptive... for example, many W. African drums now use high-quality, non-stretch marine and/or rappelling [sp?] line for lacing and tuning. A lot of Africans have adopted this tech. mikeweil Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 I know - a German fellow drummer wrote his doctoral thesis in ethnomusicology on Jenbe drumming in Bamako and how the technological changes effected the playing situations etc.: Quote
