Von Freeman will be 88 in eight days. He and Sam Rivers should do a recording together. I imagine they'd blow most of the younger set away.

There's a special place in my heart for Sam, as I was a regular at Rivebea when I was 18-19 years old. There was the music, of course, but also Sam & Bea's hospitality.

I saw him live May 2010 he talked about having internal bleeding and being the hospital for a few weeks. I do hope he is over whatever that was.

Every once in a while one gets used for a publication or a cd. The last one was on Freddie Hubbard's "Pinnacle", and the next one will be on a Oscar Perterson recording for Sony Masterworks "UNMISTAKABLE".

Has anyone heard anything recently about his health? I hope he's doing well. I was at the same concert as Hardbopjazz and it was my first time seeing Rivers play. Because of his health he couldn't play much, but what he did play was excellent. he made up for it by having Steve Coleman and Craig Harris as guests.
