Larry Kart Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 But just a bit of Lucky Thompson makes all this shit irrelevant. Vocalese for me is a minor and more or less boring subject, and I'm sorry now that I said one word about it. Quote
JSngry Posted August 27, 2011 Author Report Posted August 27, 2011 Your bad, then, because I wasn't talking about vocalese in the first place, I was talking about scatting! Quote

Larry, I for one found this conversation very interesting and enlightening, and I appreciate everyone's contribution. I appreciate hearing the opinions and the civility of the discussion. This certainly isn't a topic that's going to necessarily have a definitive resolution. This kind of stuff is what makes this place interesting! BTW, I love the clips. L & H are tearing up the changes on Airegin! Great to hear the details of the harmony, like setting up the Bb minor in the fifth bar with a movement from F minor to F7, and the modulations starting at bar 9. Yeah, skills, exactly! Also nice to hear actual pitches in the lines, as opposed to a "general" slurviness that some/too many singers use when scatting on a tune. If done intentionally, it's cool, part of the intrinsically "vocal" thing that (I think) Larry was getting at, but too often just a way of saying, "Not necessary!!!!" and/or "Seriously? You expect me to do THAT?", but, yeah, it kinda is and yeah, I kinda do. Quote
