connoisseur series500
Man, two great games today. Carolina played with heart and I had predicted they would win in my office pool. (No money involved; it's for fun.) Pats win in a tough, tough game. McNair played with great heart. He's a true warrior and a gentleman. I loved seeing him comfort Drew Bennett at the end, who had made some close catches on the sideline. I believe that Charlie Weiss (NE offensive coordinator) called a crappy game as usual. Antoine Smith would have two straight great runs then he would call the stupid pass play to a receiver on the line of scrimmage. Titans were all over it. He called that crappy play four times in two straight offensive series. Result: good runs by Antoine Smith wiped out as Pats are forced to punt. Damn, that guy drives me nuts! Fisher called a great game, I think. They would use the salt and pepper running attack: run George for a couple of plays then come back with the speedier Brown. Very effective play calling. We should have had Faulk run a few plays after Antoine. Brady is such a great quarterback. He's got nerves of steel and brilliantly manages the game. He's our everything on offense. Tennessee threw on Tyrone Poole's side of the field all evening. Didn't want to test Ty Law after that key interception he made on them early in the season. Poole did not have one of his best games. Seymour did not have one of his best games either. Our pass coverage looked the worst it had been in a long time. Where was our pass rush? Only in the end, were we able to really pressure McNair into quick passes. Tough, tough game by two tough teams. We win and move on. Tennessee has nothing to feel bad about. I do believe the Pats will march to the Super Bowl. They'll play better next game for sure. Sorry Jim.

chris
BOTH my teams lost today. Let's hope the other games go a little better. JSngry
I'd like to see the Pats get through an entire playoff series w/o getting to play every game in Foxboro. Not saying they couldn't do it, just that I'd like to see it.

Hate to see the Pats, the most boring football team on the planet, win it all... snoooooooze-fest You know that this is going to elicit a response from me... If you find good defence and good teamplay boring then you find it boring. I would say that you probably don't know too much about football. Defence wins championships, not long bombs. Games are made interesting by drama. You can be a high scoring team or a low scoring team. It really doesn't matter as long as the games are close and and tight. I see the Pats marching all the way. Might want to sit out the rest of the playoffs.

Sahara Blue Orchestra
Thought the Pats played just the way they wanted to play, tough D, some running game, a few clutch throws, good coaching, and when necessary the burn-the-house-down blitz. Fun to watch in the elements, probably pretty boring if played in a dome though. Now, about Mike Martz and his decision to play for a tie? Play not to lose, you often get the loss. They only ran 4 plays in the last 2:30! They ran two plays. Two, after getting a first down at Carolina's 25 with a 1:30 left and a timeout. So much for the greatest show on turf. Now, just need the Chiefs and Eagles to win today and I would be 4-0. Which means THAT won't happen.

I need the Colts and Packers to win in order to be 4-0! Total opposite! Agree on Martz. I've been suspicious about Mr. Martz' stewardship of that talent-laden team. He should have a better record than he has; and he doesn't play Marshall Faulk enough. Giving up all that time at the end of the game was really lame. Hmm, I see that the Colts have just scored. Looking good....

chris
I've been watching and following football for 20 years-- just because I find the style the Pats play boring is no reason to assume otherwise. It's like basketball-- who plays the most refined, cleanest, most fundamental game? College women. Am I going to choose them over college men, NBA or even WNBA? Not a chance. I'd rather watch Green Bay with its flashes of brilliance, or St. Louis going crazy on offense, or a firebrand like Vick trying to win a game by himself than the same exact game every single day. Pats play fundamental, BORING football. Sorry to break it to you so gently
chris
Martz should have gambled, but if football were poker, gambling with Bulger is like trying to bluff with only a mid-level pair. Not that Warner is the answer. But I have to agree that not playing Faulk more was a travesty...

No friggin defence whatsoever. What a bore. Vick is exciting to watch. Can't argue that. So is Favre, but I'm an AFC guy. I like defence and big hits and great coaching. I found that New England game yesterday to be very intense. I loved it!

Still, I don't think there is any question that Tony Dungy is a great coach, particularly now that he is away from a team of whiners like Warren Sapp. At this moment I'm trying to avoid watching Green Bay so that I don't jinx them, but whoever claimed the "easy" win for the Eagles must not have been watching Green Bay play the last few games! Still, I never count the Eagles out. My adopted team is the Seahawks, though, like many Alaskans. Very sad state of affairs...

connoisseur series500
I warn you though, Chris, that if the Pats go all the way, there will be a ton of Belichick imitators and suddenly everyone will endeavor to play Pat-style football. If they do win then it will be their second triumph in three years. People will realize that there's some kind of football revolution coming out of the Boston area. chris
I'm bored with West Coast Offense too, so I should welcome any change. On the other hand, were it not for the ridiculous tuck rule, Pats would be looking for their first in three years, so maybe the real problem lies elsewhere

Rules are rules. Everything was within the rules. Oakland could still have won that game if they had any nuts. I also subscribe to the theory that all questionable calls even out in the end. BTW, we can now see the downside of the Brett Favre freelancing, dangerous style as he just threw a horrible interception which might cost them the game, and cheat me of a 4-0 weekend. Thanks! Yeah, I'm just yanking your chain now I flipped the channel and watched McNabb convert a 4th and 26 over the middle with no defenders within five yards of the receiver. No matter, no one will claim an "easy" win in that game. Neither of those teams will make it past Carolina... Green Bay would be tougher for them though. JSngry
Green Bay did everything it took to win in regulation except keep the ball out of McNabb's hands one last time. Fatal mistake, that (and, of course, Favre's brain favrt in OT). But I think w/the way their running game was going that punting on 4th down was not the best choice. Same with those piddlyass pass plays on 3rd down earlier on. I'm watching all this go down thinking that the Pack was setting themselves up for an ass-biting further on up the road, and sure enough... Give it up for McNabb - he had a rough game up until crunch time, and then he responded magnificently and found a way. Of such things are true champions (of character) made, not rings and trophies. chris
"BTW, we can now see the downside of the Brett Favre freelancing" All I can say is that if I had to choose between the careers of Favre and Brady, I'd take Favre for sure. Brady has a long ways to go to even get in the same class as Brett Favre... the upside of "freelancing" is called Super Bowl wins, and many more have been won by powerful quarterbacks not afraid to play outside the box and capable of making the big plays that go beyond fundamentals than anyone else. And by a large margin... Brady's a fine player. Favre is one of a few immortals.
