Chuck Nessa
Searching around a bit I found his mugshot. He was arrested a few months ago and one source says he has been extradited to Louisiana!
Niko
only chance is that he's not guilty, chances he's not the arrested guy are virtually zero. feels seriously awkward!
clifford_thornton
Awkward... more like completely fucked up. Yeesh.
papsrus
Sad. Keeping Larry's cautioning in mind about jumping to conclusions of guilt, the magnitude of the investigation, coupled with what one would assume are the fairly straightforward forensics involved in tracing computer A to computer B, it all adds up to a sense of inevitability about how this is going to shake out. So terrible to contemplate. Confusion. Anger. Betrayal. The works.
Leeway
Jesus. I sure hope it isn't him, but I guess it doesn't look too good. Not exactly the person I would expect. I know what you mean, but there is no one type that does this sort of thing. In many cases, these individuals are close family members, friends, or prominent members of the community, never suspected until caught. That's an important lesson. As for this case, what is staggering is the depth of involvement of those charged; terrabytes worth of child porn. I think one commentator said something along the order of 64,000 DVDs worth of material. I feel tremendously sorry for the children who were victimized. clifford_thornton
Regardless of guilt (which, paps is right, is probable), I can't even comprehend what goes through the mind of someone who does this.
7/4
for starters, he's probably also a compulsive CD buyer too.

Quincy
...one source says he has been extradited to Louisiana! ...punishment before verdict, that is... And when you consider it's the worst crime to be accused of for someone who's incarcerated, let alone one with a broken elbow...Not that I want to add to how disturbing all of this is. Unk
All in favor of letting this thread die, say nothing. I'm being facetious. But seeing it pop up isn't helping me stay in a state of denial. I'm remembering (our) Bill as a friend of jazz and a guy who was nice in his interactions with me. That Bill lives. The other is innocent until proven guilty.

brownie
I am feeling totally outraged by all this It is one of the worst case of crimes against youths. The thought of the man quietly posting on this Board while taking a major part at the same time in this abominable scheme makes it a nightmare as far as I am concerned. I regret having interacted with him when he was around here.
clifford_thornton
We didn't know, so it's hard to regret communicating with the guy, as horrible as what he did (might have done) of this board / outside of the music is. That's the only way I can approach this thing at the moment.
Big Wheel
Pales in comparison to the alleged crime in terms of how queasy it makes me, but what are the chances that the FBI read its fair share of this forum? I'd guess fairly high. *waves to the federal agents* Edited August 9, 2011 by Big Wheel
EKE BBB
(...) but what are the chances that the FBI read its fair share of this forum? I'd guess fairly high. (...) Of course they will check this forum, as they will inspect the Facebook accounts of all his "friends" there. The thought of the man quietly posting on this Board while taking a major part at the same time in this abominable scheme makes it a nightmare as far as I am concerned. I regret having interacted with him when he was around here. Amen to that. Being the father of three young children (9, 7 and 4 years old), the simple thought of the magnitude of this crime just makes me sick. I'm kind of curious whether Jim was subpoenaed for access to the board's messaging system, to be honest. But the more we learn about this case the grosser it feels. Tom Storer
The crimes as described in the press and indictments are indeed shocking. But these people are in the hands (or the sights) of the legal system now. It's up to the courts to determine guilt or innocence. Was Bill really involved and if so to what extent? It's possible that we'll never know, if media attention trails off.

It's possible that we'll never know, if media attention trails off. I agree. Given the fact that we have no real information of what his involvement might have been in these crimes, we shouldn't jump to any hasty conclusions. As someone posted earlier, he remains innocent before being proven guilty.

AllenLowe
just to be aware that this ring involves missing and probably kidnapped/enslaved children - it's not just a bunch of weirdos sitting around talking or looking at pictures -
.:.impossible
Seriously? I'm having a hard time with this. I don't even know what to say, but feel compelled for whatever reason to type. This board is a pretty tight community. Most of us have known, or have met one another at some point. It seemed that Bill was one of the folks that people knew. I'm just in shock. As the Internet goes, this is too close to home.
