BERIGAN Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Beer....water! Used to drink tap all the time in St. Louis, seemed they had great tasting tap, better than the water I tasted on trips to L.A. or Florida....Moved to Jacksonville, Fl and damn that was some horrible water, you wash your car, and forget to dry the windows, it would dry spotted , and would not come off easily, even with Windex! so had to drink bottled water (Cheap store brand) Moved to Atlanta, thought the water was much better than the tap in Jax, so drank it for the last 10 years...lately though...the tap has gone downhill. Tastes as pool water tastes, except pool water wouldn't taste as chlorinated. Using a Brita filter works fine, except they turn pink(The white plastic parts) in short order , before the filter is used up, and makes you want to drink water with all that chlorine(but, looking on the bright side, my teeth have never been whiter!) So, are others here forced to drink expensive bottled water, instead of the "free" stuff? Quote
chris olivarez Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Tap. Generally pretty good around here but sometimes I wonder if somebody peed in the pool if you know what I mean. Quote
Alexander Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Tap, but filtered through my Brita. Bottled at work, usually. Quote
Parkertown Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Yep, you can always tell when something must have fallen in the water supply: they boost the heck out of the chlorine levels. At least, that's what my buddy who sets up and maintains water systems for most of the Vail valley says. Quote
Parkertown Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Oh, but I drink tap water, through a Brita filter. Never seen one turn pink though! Quote
brownie Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 No mineral water except for some Badoit when I feel the need for bubbly water. Tap water is just fine around here. Quote
BeBop Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Tap, always. Well, except Sudan, Benin and Bangladesh. But the questions is just so...1980s. The question in the 90s became "what brand or type of oxygen do you prefer?" Now, I've lost track. Quote

At least, that's what my buddy who sets up and maintains water systems for most of the Vail valley says. Interesting, because in my town, they send out periodic reminders that "in order to maintain the safety of the water, we will now massively increase the chlorine content for the next three weeks." The problem being, my wife is severely allergic to chlorine so when we got this notice, we had to immediately run out and get filters for the showerhead and kitchen, and for the next three weeks, she brushes her teeth in the kitchen. Otherwise I'm doing the dishes for three straight weeks! But as far as consumption goes, the tap works fine for me-she's always drunk the fizzy stuff anyway. Quote

ghost of miles Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I figger there's plenty 'a water in the two fifths of whiskey and the pot of coffee that I put away a day. Quote

pryan Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Tap, through a Brita filter, although when the filter expires I'm not against drinking water straight from the tap -- straight, no filter, if you will. B) Quote
maren Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Tap, but filtered through my Brita. Ditta. Er, ditto. Also seltzer. NYC tap water tastes great. But where I grew up in northern Wisconsin, the water has a STRONG iron taste (just like the smell of rust) and leaves rust stains on the sink, washing machine, etc. Brita can't get ridda that -- need something out of a bottle. Chuck Nessa Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 I've been told by "experts" if you leave a gallon of tap water "open to the elements" for an hour the chlorine evaporates. No telling what the chlorine does to the enviroment, but tap water should be ok. If you really want to filter your water, you need a "reverse osmosis" system. Quote

paul secor Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Tap tastes fine to me. My wife, on the other hand, says that she can't stand the taste of our tap water, and will only drink the bottled stuff. Guess that she's got a more sensitive palate than mine. Quote
Aftab Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Our water stright from the tap is nasty here in Packerland - we have a fridge with a water filter and that is good enough Quote
vibes Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 I've gotten used to it, but when I first moved to Minneapolis I thought our water tasted like a garden hose. Having said that, it would seem that I really enjoy the taste of a garden hose. I've had water out of the tap in many different places, and the worst-tasting I've ever had was in Jackson, Tennessee. Pretty sad, considering the fact that I've had tap water in places like Hong Kong and stuff. Quote
chris Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 As long as it is cold, I'm not picky. So bottled water right from the cooler or a bottle of tap water nice and cold is good enough for me... Quote
Joe G Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Was drinking bottled water at work, but then I ended up with two huge bags of plastic to recycle. So I bought a bottle of Voss water, which comes in a nice glass bottle, which I wash out and fill with Brita water. Works for me. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 Brita. The difference between coffee or tea made with Brita filtered water or our tap water is not subtle! Quote
chris Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 When I am making coffee (or especially tea), I care more about the water than when I am just drinking the water straight! Quote
Peter Johnson Posted January 11, 2004 Report Posted January 11, 2004 From the tap, through the tap-mounted brita. Much better than straight (Philly water--straight from the Delaware, after about four other states have dumped their shit into it!!! ). Occasionally have the odd bottle of San Pellegrino as well.
