Chuck Nessa Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 (edited) Guitarist Scott Fields posted this on Facebook: A guy tells a story on himself. Great story, so well told. You tell a story on yourself. No good. You tell his story saying you heard from him. No good. You tell the story as though it's yours. No good. You tell it the way he told it. No good. You tell it as though it's about you, the way he told it, and you imitate his voice and dress like him. Still not as good, but you're ready to graduate from jazz conservatory. JSngry Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 A guy tells a story on himself. Great story, so well told. You tell a story on yourself. No good. Not sure what the built-in difference is here. Otherwise, yeah, definitely. Quote
ghost of miles Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 A guy tells a story on himself. Great story, so well told. You tell a story on yourself. No good. Not sure what the built-in difference is here. That whatever artist/person B is coming up with that's original is of no interest or value? (Therefore sending said artist/person in search of someone else's story to lift?) Rather like the old joke about the writer getting the rejection notice that said, "We found your work both interesting and original. Unfortunately, the interesting parts weren't original, and the original parts weren't interesting." Quote
JSngry Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 Oh, I see. It was meant to be a sequence of events, not a collection. Just goes to show you how little interest literature holds for me these days. Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 I think the story is timeless, and if the storyteller is good enough, it still resonates. Whether the teller graduated from jazz conservatory or not. Quote
randyhersom Posted August 3, 2011 Report Posted August 3, 2011 The trick is to repeat line 2 until the result changes, but you can also go all the way through and return to step 2 when ready. Quote
