ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Colts will officially cut ties with Peyton Manning tomorrow. Apparently both Jim Irsay, the Colts owner, and Manning himself will be at the press conference. Now that he's officially in play, that will make the machinations leading up to the NFL draft even more interesting.

At this point Peyton Manning is an unknown- is his arm regaining strength, is it just a noodle? A lot rides on that.

Browns aren't interested in Peyton

We ain't got any receivers anyway

Yeah, and Colt McCoy is so much better than Peyton too!

If they don't pursue Manning, I think the Browns will end up with a new QB in the draft.

I think Manning ends up in either Miami or Seattle.

I'm guessing Manning goes to Miami. Makes sense since he's played his whole high school, college and pro career on a team with white helmets.

With respect to Cleveland, RGIII is their's for the taking if they're willing to pay the freight. That would start, but not end, with the two first round picks they have in this year's draft.

Send him to the '65 Chargers then. Him & Lance Alworth would be AWESOME.

Some people have theorized Houston as it's a ready made to order situation: smallish type city, very good team and a dome. Schaub is always injured and the Texans won't take a major cap hit if they cut him.

Houston's the 4th largest city in America http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0763098.html and is loud, dirty and crazy. It's got all the bad points of New Orleans only ona bigger scale) and few of the good ones. It's also got a massively sprawling suburban population. Houston is one of those cities where you think you're there about an hour before you actially are.

What they don't have is a gonzo sports (or other) media scene. So you might be forgiven for thinking it's comprable to Indianoplis or some such. But it's anything but.

I personally don't like Houston too much.

re: "smallish type city"...

I've heard that before about Houston, but it's the 4th largest city in the country, after NYC, L.A., and Chicago. I don't get how it can be considered a small city or a small market even.

I realize that Houston's football teams over the decades haven't had the success that the Cowboys have had, who are probably alot more popular throughout Texas than the Oilers were and the Texans are.

But that still doesn't change the size of the Houston market, does it?

Lance Alworth was one of those players who was just fun to watch.

Lance Alworth was one of the main reasons I was an AFL fan instead of an NFL fan. When the guy came to Dallas for his final years, I had to soften my dislike of the Cowboys, at least when he was on the field.

Just an amazing receiver. Not for nothing was he called "Bambi".

I hadn't thought of that angle but you may be on to something, as probably the 2nd favorite team to get him is the Cardinals.

Redskins have apparently given up three (!!) first round picks and a 2nd to move up to the #2 pick in this year's draft, to get RGIII.

Dude's good, perhaps really good, but is he (or anybody) worth 3 first round picks?

If he turns out to be just an average NFL QB, Redskins are in trouble with no 1st rd picks for the next few yrs.

They swapped 1st rounders, and are giving up a second rounder and 2 future 1 rounders. A steep price, but they won't have to cough up a ton of cash for a rookie player under the new rules. Last year they were successful in drafting lower round picks, and they have a ton of money to spend on free agency. I don't see this as a bad thing for the team.

I'll tell you who I'd like to be right now and that's the Rams. Talk about filing some holes. The biggest question they have is if Freshman Sam or Sophomore Sam (as in Bradford) is what they're going to see from here on out. For their sake, it better be the former.

So that's what the "III" stands for in Griffin's name - 3 1st round picks. Check their front office to see if they dug up George Allen as GM.

edit - Actually George Allen would trade picks for an old guy. Never mind.

Seriously, it was a bold and necessary move for a team that has been the laughing stock of the league for the past decade.

Now, with regards to the salary cap fine that the skins and the boys just got slapped with, I call BS and there will be a lawsuit.
