Big Beat Steve Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) groly hail! Holy Mackerel! At first sight, though, that Mozart package looks rather like a family box of "Mozartkugeln" to me, if you know what I mean, King Ubu ... Funny, this statement: "For many genuine audiophiles, however – especially those devoted to the classical canon as reproduced on the music connoisseur's enduring format of choice, vinyl – its is the perfect marriage of timeless, tour de force studio performance and premium analogue recording and mastering processes which will forever define phonographic allure..." Wasn't it the CLASSICAL music listeners' fraternity, in particular, who went totally haywire about CDs in the early years of CD marketing and dumped their vinyl collections head over heels, thus accelerating the rapid shrinkage of the vinyl market? At least over here this pont has been made by sellers fairly often when the "nobody buys vinyl anymore anyway" story came up. Edited November 29, 2012 by Big Beat Steve Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 Yes, they're the ones, and some come in rather distinguished, uppity packagings (hence my thoughts when seeing that "In Paris" box). Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted November 29, 2012 Author Report Posted November 29, 2012 A complete Mozart package with a separate Mozartkugeln for every K number. Now that beats a trumpet mouthpiece. The possibilities are endless - Wagner sets with boil in the bag vegetarian dishes, Richard Strauss with lashings of schlagsahne..... Quote
fent99 Posted November 29, 2012 Report Posted November 29, 2012 (edited) Those Mozart balls are great. I visited a friend from Salzburg a number of years ago and we went to a counter at the factory and bought an absurd number by the kilo very cheaply. Yum Better tasting than any cd or vinyl I've ever tasted Edited November 29, 2012 by fent99 Quote

I love the Rite, it's a piece I have a few recordings of (something I try to avoid), but... Wow! When going thru the local shops' used classical section I'll sometimes look to see about adding a 3rd or 4th Rite or Firebird if I can't think of anything else but thus far there hasn't been one of interest (or one that I already don't have). But 20 of them? I hope to hell it's cheaper to find 1 used someday than it is to buy the whole friggin' box. I'm not even going to check the price in case it makes (warped) "sense" to buy 20 at once. Does the box come with a baton? Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 1, 2012 Author Report Posted December 1, 2012 It's actually not that expensive - £55. I can imagine it having some practical value to a scholar researching the RofS. But I suspect Decca are working on the inability to resist an object of desire button. I suspect there will be a lot bought which never get listened to right the way through. I find it hard remembering what disc I've got to in a box with different pieces on! Quote
Quincy Posted December 8, 2012 Report Posted December 8, 2012 It's actually not that expensive - £55. Unlike this one! And I think it wins for best packaging. And for being limited. For those who don't have the time or desire, it's $100,000, packaged inside a refrigerator and there are only 10. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted January 14, 2013 Author Report Posted January 14, 2013 A year old, but this article looks into the reasons for the elephantism. "As long as marketing departments exist," he laughs, "they will find ways to reissue, remaster and repackage Pink Floyd and other evergreen artists for ever more. I don't think the market's saturated yet. We've heard from retailers like Tesco, saying this year that the CD format as is, 12 tracks in a jewel case with a booklet, is no longer attractive to the marketplace. They've called on record companies to make the package more appealing. I think they're going to reissue as many of these CDs and add on as many trinkets and goodies as they can." http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/dec/22/rise-super-deluxe-box-set The article is more balanced than my deliberately lob-sided extract. A Lark Ascending Posted August 1, 2013 Author Report Posted August 1, 2013 Just read about a forthcoming set of outtakes from The Waterson's 'Bright Phoebus' (Original album still OOP for legal reasons) which promises to include some of Lal Waterson's knitting patterns. That must be a first. Quote
crisp Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Van himself slagged off that reissue of Moondance on his website recently. Since he is the most negative man to have ever walked the Earth, however, his disdain probably doesn't count for much: Yesterday Warner Brothers stated that "Van Morrison was reissuing Moondance". It is important that people realise that this is factually incorrect. I did not endorse this, it is unauthorised and it has happened behind my back. My management company at that time gave this music away 42 years ago and now I feel as though it's being stolen from me again. 18th July 2013 Quote

Blue Train Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) This might deserve its own thread, but I can't bring myself.... It's the Residents being the Residents. There was even a video for it. If the video isn't clear enough of much of a joke this was meant to be about boxsets....there is the official page. Winner's name....Dexter Ulysses "Tripmonster" McGillicutty and he lives in Indiana. Only the Residents could make that up.http://www.residents.com/home/page15/ Edited October 24, 2013 by Blue Train Quote
Blue Train Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 This get's even more obvious. The alleged winner has a tumblr and youtube channel. Not a single reference to the Residents in anyway....the only one is suddenly this bogus "box set" Another thing....not a single picture looks like the person that is pictured shaking hands with Flynn. http://tripmonster.tumblr.com/http://www.youtube.com/user/tripmonster Quote
