sidewinder Posted July 23, 2011 Report Posted July 23, 2011 Yes, sad news, RIP - I recall that Jay Landesman passed away recently too. I remember the BBC doing an interview with her and getting her recollections of the Bob Dorough collaboration that resulted in the track on Miles Davis' 'Sorcerer'. That was the first time I came across her name. Quote
The Rep Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Very sad news, some of my favourite songs have Frans lyrics, Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most, Small Day Tomorrow, Living In Overdrive, Sounds Like Goodbye, also a poet. The jazz world will miss her. I believe she was still performing as late as last week. RIP Fran. Quote
crisp Posted July 24, 2011 Report Posted July 24, 2011 Damn. A fine lyricist and a fascinating person. She lived near me and I always hoped I might bump into her. Won't be doing that now. Quote
king ubu Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 Catching up with news only now... and just found this in the shelves, had forgotten all about it - it's spinning now, and nice it is! r.i.p. Fran Landesman Quote
The Rep Posted July 31, 2011 Report Posted July 31, 2011 Some how she just put the right words into a song. The album I have been listening to all week is "A Lazy Kind Of Love" recorded by Sarah Moule. It is superb. Quote
