king ubu Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Yes, Flurin, looks to be the same as what's in the Classic Album Collection. Thanks! So the only remaining rarity there will be the second disc of "We Want Miles" material... now that would make a great upcoming Miles Bootleg Series volume, too! Quote
jazzbo Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Well, that box set was not MEANT to be chockful of rareties. There is the Isle of Wight audio disc, great to have, and also the original mix of Bitches Brew, also great to have. Quote
djcavanagh Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 The Isle of Wight is now available on the Bitches Brew Live cd that came out earlier this year. I think the only thing on the big box that is completely unavailable in any other form are the additional tracks on the first disc, the Tadd Dameron one. Even the We Want Miles bonus tracks were on Miles! Miles! Miles! I think. Quote
John Tapscott Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 During the heat wave last night when I couldn't fall asleep, I kept thinking about this set. So this morning I pre-ordered one from amazon.ca - $43.99 Cdn. a little pricey, but what the hey, it's something I HAVE to have. (It's the same price as amazon.com when exchange is considered). Estimated date of delivery Sept. 15. If I find it cheaper somewhere else, I'll simply cancel this order. Quote

The Classic Album Collection is a fascinating box set. I'm still having some fun comparing versions in that set with domestic and Japanese cds in my collection. And it's fun to reach into the box and pull out a favorite and spin it. Quote

Hopefully, the price will drop a bit. But the price is not THAT bad from my perspective, since recordings and DVD's have been traditionally 25% higher in Canada than in the US. 3 CD's and 1 DVD works out to $11 per disc (tax adds $6 in total, can't do anything about that), plus free shipping. So under $50 delivered to my door. About the same as a Mosaic Select. Not too bad. Quote

John Tapscott Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 A review of the set in Jazz Times! That's good to read, but it's not a true review, more of a promo blurb. Quote

jazzbo Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 A review of the set in Jazz Times! That's good to read, but it's not a true review, more of a promo blurb. Nearly identical word for word to the text on the link aurello posted. This is good news: great sources used, complete audio shows. I'm eager for its release! Quote
JSngry Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 I thought I was going to have this stuff already (would have bought it even if I had...), but looks like I don't have the Paris, so even moreso...BRING IT ON! Quote
Leeway Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 A review of the set in Jazz Times! That's good to read, but it's not a true review, more of a promo blurb. Isn't everything in Jazz Times? Looks like Sony's promo sheet--which is useful anyway. Quote
Niko Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Looks like Sony's promo sheet--which is useful anyway. the complete version of the promo sheet is linked to by aurelio above... Quote
7/4 Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 looking forward to this set, my favorite of the Miles bands. Quote
Guy Berger Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 What do they mean about Copenhagen not being released as a bootleg? I've had a recording of this for 9 years. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Yeah. It's so silly when they make these sort of claims. Actually it's embarrassing. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 A review of the set in Jazz Times! That's good to read, but it's not a true review, more of a promo blurb. John, isn't that pretty much the definition of "reviews" these days, in a lot of publications? Too darn may 4/5 star reviews: as though the publication is afraid of offending a potential/current advertiser. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) I find this sort of thing amusing... (from http://www.milesdavis.com/us/news/miles-davis-quintet-live-europe-1967-bootleg-series-vol-1?cid=lg:8su&utm_medium=email&utm_source=miles%20davis&utm_campaign=ypp%20-%20miles%20davis Comments for this News article Re: Miles Davis Quintet - Live In Europe 1967: The Bootleg Series Vol. 1 .Fri, 07/22/2011 - 12:28 — jules This is incredible news! Even though I already have all this music as bootlegs, I can't wait to buy the official release. This is some of my favorite Miles music ever, really stretching the boundaries of acoustic jazz. Will we have in the near future Sony pushing a release with somebody saying "Wow! Finally a chance to actually pay for that Napster concert I downloaded a few years back..."? (HMMM...somehow double posted. No doubt my mistake.) Edited July 22, 2011 by Ted O'Reilly Quote
JSngry Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 The future of the industry of the music of the past pretty much hinges on people having a conscience. Quote
medjuck Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 The DVD looks like it's the same as a European DVD I bought which has the Stockholm and some of the Karlsruhe concert. (The full concert took up more than one cd.) Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) That was settled a while back. Not even a contest. I was responding to Jim's post. Edited July 22, 2011 by Chuck Nessa Quote
JSngry Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Drastically shrunken and massive collateral damage, but...there is a future, such as it is. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Drastically shrunken and massive collateral damage, but...there is a future, such as it is. 'splain that to me. The biggies are living off music publishing and the indies are gone - 'cept those bringing out live recordings "on spec", and most of those operations are hitting up the musicians for seed money.
