paul secor Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 Received the following link from a friend: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blind-Man-Blues-Various-Artists/dp/B00555NWAK/ref=sr_1_17?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1310405748&sr=1-17 As he remarked, "What's next - peg legs?" Quote
JSngry Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 I can't see where the link goes. Can you tell me what it is? Quote
alankin Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 "Blind Man Blues" - a 2 CD compilation of recordings by blind blues musicians. "This 2CD set celebrates the triumph of musical talent over the adversity of blindness and extreme poverty, the results of which being some of the rawest blues tracks you will ever hear. This is no frills stripped down stuff with iconic performances from the likes of Blind Boy Fuller, Sleepy John Estes, Bo Carter, Blind Willie McTell, Ray Charles and many more." Quote
Shawn Posted July 11, 2011 Report Posted July 11, 2011 I'll wait until "JAZZ by JUNKIES" comes out. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 (edited) A set called "Crips Collected" might be a money maker. Pics of Serge in a wheelchair and Arnett on crutches should seal the deal. Edited July 12, 2011 by Chuck Nessa Quote
JSngry Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 "...and help me across the street." How many artists on this compulation are/were actually called "Blind Boy XYZ"? Quote
JSngry Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 The concept itself doesn't bother me at all, blindness being a longtime reality/fascination-of-sorts/marketing prop in music for as long as I can remember, but this copy from the Amazon site makes me almost wish I was blind: This 2CD set celebrates the triumph of musical talent over the adversity of blindness and extreme poverty, the results of which being some of the rawest blues tracks you will ever hear. This is a construct that begs for the word "Negro" to be included, just so you don't have any doubts about how "authentic" it all is. POOR! BLIND! NEGRO! RAW!!!! Getcha tickets here! In spite of all that, this may not be the set that does it, but I do think the notion in and of itself has some legitimacy. Quote
Face of the Bass Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 I'll wait until "JAZZ by JUNKIES" comes out. That's be like 75 percent of the Prestige catalog, probably. Quote

They didn't call it "the junkie label" for nothing. Of course, I have a feeling that particular problem crossed over to about every other label during the era. Quote
JSngry Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 A new Low? D'oh! A new & BETTER Low at that! Quote
Christiern Posted July 12, 2011 Report Posted July 12, 2011 I don't see anything wrong with the title. It is descriptive. Here is a forum that I have visited for several years. Quote
