medjuck Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Browsing through both Amazon and ITunes I noticed that some rare Bird is available for download: Uptown and Philology releases. Don't know if they're exactly bargains but they're a lot cheaper than the hard copies i've been able to find. Quote
Edward Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Amazon has now made available for purchase four more sets in the Capitol Vaults Jazz Series. Capitol Vaults Jazz Series The sets now available include: Dexter Gordon: $9.49 Bennie Green: $14.84 Bobby Hackett: $74.18 Andrew Hill: $13.55 Bobby Hutcherson: $13.55 Johnny Mercer: (available July 26th) Art Pepper: $18.06 Don Pullen: $9.49 Dizzy Reece: $13.55 Bud Shank & Bob Cooper: $20.77 Quote
BFrank Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 I'm still confused about these Capitol Vault sets. Are they exactly the same tracks as the Mosaics except without the great liners and (obviously) packaging? And what about Mosaic's remastering? Do these sets have that or did they just dump the original masters here? Overall, it seems unfair to Mosaic for Capitol to offer these at a fraction of the price. I obviously have no insight into the contractual arrangements for this stuff, but I feel bad for Michael & Co. Quote

I obviously have no insight into the contractual arrangements for this stuff, but I feel bad for Michael & Co. With the exception of the Hill and Hackett sets, these recordings are no longer available from Mosaic. Interestingly, the Hackett download is not a "fraction of the price", but just a few dollars cheaper. Given the lack of packaging and printed info, and the lower sound quality, I think these downloads are "reasonably" priced, and Mosaic isn't losing a dime. Quote
colinmce Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) Cecil Taylor - Solo (Trio/Japan only LP, 1973) $3.96 http://www.amazon.com/Solo/dp/B003XJ95PG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1311346404&sr=8-3 Edited July 22, 2011 by colinmce Quote
mjzee Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 A lot of good ECM values on eMusic. For example, I did a search on Gary Peacock: Tales of Another - $2.94 December Poems - $2.94 Shift In The Wind - $3.43 Quote

Chicago Expat Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 (edited) A lot of good ECM values on eMusic. For example, I did a search on Gary Peacock: Tales of Another - $2.94 December Poems - $2.94 Shift In The Wind - $3.43 Buyer beware with ECM albums on emusic. Now, tracks that are longer than seven minutes (before it was ten) are now considered album only, and the album pricing on ECMs are now $7.79. For instance, that December Poems ain't $2.94 anymore; it jumped up to $7.79. ----------------------------------------------- Here's a nice deal on a nice album... Cuong Vu - "It's Mostly Residual" NYOP (name your own price) on his Bandcamp page. Bandcamp page Stomu Takeishi - bass Ted Poor - drums Cuong Vu - trumpet/writing Guest - Bill Frisell - guitar Great album. Edited August 12, 2011 by Chicago Expat Quote
felser Posted August 12, 2011 Report Posted August 12, 2011 You can get some hard to find Billy Harper albums at $2.97 each on Amazon (a bargain because they're figuring $.99 per track, and each album only has three tracks). Quote
Chicago Expat Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 A couple John Handy's... "Live at Monterey" and "New View" are $1.98 and $2.98 respectively. The Monterey album lists at ten bucks, but allows you to buy both tracks for a buck each. Amazon page for "Live..." Amazon "New View..." Quote
.:.impossible Posted August 13, 2011 Report Posted August 13, 2011 New View, IMO, is a wonderful album. Quote

Apparently the U.S. downgrade is making those Amazon gift cards a riskier proposition, and Manfred decided to jazz up the price on those albums. Quote
chickyraptor Posted August 14, 2011 Report Posted August 14, 2011 Cuong Vu - "It's Mostly Residual" NYOP (name your own price) on his Bandcamp page. There are a few other ones, too. I wonder what a fair price would be? Quote
mjzee Posted September 1, 2011 Report Posted September 1, 2011 This looks tasty, especially for $4.40: No discographical info, though. Anyone know recording date or who plays on it? eMusic Quote
sonnymax Posted September 2, 2011 Report Posted September 2, 2011 Anyone know recording date or who plays on it? A Lark Ascending Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 Only useful to UK chaps and chapesses but Amazon.co.uk has a 2 for £10 offer going until 30th Sept. Any albums under £8 qualify. Which is a fair few. Quote
