bichos
Thanks. That was great. How did you come across this clip? searching the world wide web for newsreels of jazz greats in the hope of some footage of bird, charlie christian, lester young (found him with basie on the same site live with sound from 1944!). there is also goodman with a young zoot sims(?). takes time but brings fun... keep boppin´ marcel
Dave James
That was fun. Thanks for sharing. I loved the description of the clip. "Orchestra men with trumpets and saxophones. Men and women dance." Whoever wrote that was blessed with a truly remarkable narrative gift. One question. Amongst Chaloff's arsenal, there appears to be a bass clarinet. Did he play that instrument? Serge Chaloff is listed as playing baritone sax and bass clarinet on a February 6, 1946 session for Decca by the Jimmy Dorsey Orechestra (in the discography that is included in the Vladimir Simosko book on Chaloff).
